Re: Newbie

Here's a link to a great pillow for side-sleeping with a mask:

Re: New user: feeling of drowning/suffocation?

Two things that helped me with that sensation:
- Starting the ramp at 7 instead of 5 (my therapy is at a set pressure of 10)
- Putting a couple drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and setting it right next to the air intake

I'm new here and new to CPAP, but sure appreciate all the work you've done to make Sleepyhead available for us!

Re: Help with leaks on new mask

The Mirage FX is a full face mask that covers your mouth as well as nose.
Robysue, I use a Mirage FX for Her . . . it's a nasal mask, not full face.

Re: Mask Exchange Policies

The limit of 2 masks probably refers to the process of pick one, take it home, doesn't work, bring it back for exchange. Even with that kind of limit, you should still be allowed to try out (with the machine running) a number of different masks during your visit to the DME office. I was able to elim...

Re: Struggling with the first days

I'm new to CPAP too - one month yesterday. Best advice I can give is read everything in the Announcements section and browse through all the discussion threads to find things pertinent to you. There is SO much information here!

Re: Another Newbie--which mask to start with

I'm a brand new CPAP user too (three weeks). My doc prescribed the F&P Simplus mask "or patient's choice." I ended up choosing the Mirage FX for Her. It was working OK, but seemed a little large. I found out it also came in a smaller size, so went back to the DME and asked to try that. The smaller m...

Re: Newbie going into first sleep study.

I had my split-night study in mid-December. In early January the doctor sent me the results and sent my prescription to the DME. It took the DME company another three weeks to set up an appointment for me to get my machine.

Re: POLL: What type of pillow do you use?

I've used a tempurpedic pillow for years, but now that I'm a cpap user (two weeks now), it wasn't working well. I'm a side sleeper, and the pillow pushed my mask just enough to be a bit bothersome, so I ordered a CPAP Pillow from Contour Living. I've slept on it two nights now and really like it, wi...

Re: Newbie here with a ramp question

Yes, Cardsfan and Okydoky, I'm trying to figure out why the machine isn't behaving like the book says it should. I got into bed with everything in place, the machine started up (with Ramp set to Auto) and I started reading a book. Within 5 minutes I could feel the pressure increasing, checked the di...

Re: Newbie here with a ramp question

Sorry, Cardsfan, I guess I didn't explain properly. The ramp was initially set to Auto, but behaved as is it was detecting that I was asleep when I really wasn't. (Still had the light on while reading.)

Newbie here with a ramp question

Newly diagnosed, and just picked up my machine two days ago. Doc prescribed a pressure setting of 10 with 30-minute ramp. The therapist (she was awesome!) set the machine to start at 5, with the autoramp feature ON, so it wouldn't start to ramp up until I was asleep. First night was fine . . . it to...
