CLEANING: Odorless soap suggestions?

Post by torontoCPAPguy » Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:13 pm

Decided to post this seperate to the 'how often do I clean' thread.

I am rotating hoses because I can't stand the smell of baby shampoo or Prell detergent shampoo or ANYTHING while sleeping.

Can anyone suggest an odorless soap/shampoo that will NOT leave a residual odor in my mask or hose?

I clean my mask every day to get rid of oils and shnootz with a CPAP wipe. Good enough.

But what to use for that darned hose? After cleaning it takes three days for the odor to dissipate.

Odorless soaps??? Suggestions please.

You might try Citrusmagic.com. They have a product to clean your hose, etc and even have CPAP wipes to quickly clean the plastic/soft components of your mask on a daily basis. While it seems to have a light citrus odor when you put your nose to the liquid or wipes, once you use it, the odor completely disappears, leaving just a sensation of clean. There is nothing in this product that will cause any deterioration of your components.

Purex or All "Free and Clear" laundry detergent. Don't need very much.

Ivory "Pure" liquid dish soap. Get the unscented. They make it in unscented, lavender and lemon versions.

for laundry right now I prefer the Arm and Hammer over either Purex or All (all allegedly fragrance free products)

I assume there are other dish soaps that are unscented besides the Ivory that Link posted - check the health food store or scour the aisle at a big supermarket

oh, when I wash anything CPAP related I use plain water usually but I have also been known to use baking soda or vinegar (but not both simultaneously)

I use the Ivory Classic Pure liquid Soap - no scent, cleans well and I got the idea from this forum as many people have suggested using the Ivory.

7th Generation unscented (for handwashing dishes) works great for me...scents cause major congestion, so I avoid 'em.

Hi Toronto Guy

I use Dove baby unscented shampoo. I buy that at Loblaws, I imagine you have Loblaws in Toronto. This leaves no scent.

Once a week I use a bit of Sunlight the regular one on warm water to wash the hoses, etc. I rinse with warm water too. It leaves a very small smeling but it desapears fast. I have a VERY developed sense of smell and I don't like to have a scent in the air I will breath the whole night.

Good luck

UMMMM you don't need to wash the hose everyday. I never wash mine. What is making it dirty>? When I was my nasal pillows I use Dr.Bonner --you can get it in Target now. Also Clinque makes a facial soap that is mild, liquid and non scented.

Ivory Liquid Hand Soap. I have a pump by my sink, and a small squeeze bottle for my travel cleaning.

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions! We printed them off and are off to the supermarkets to see what we can find as soon as I kick this miserable cold. And thanks for the suggestion to continue using CPAP during my cold with the humidity turned up high... I think that it has helped a bunch especially during the night.
