Re: STICKY...can't find distilled water? What can I do?
You might also try running with no water at all. I never use my humidifier and I don't miss it.

Re: Best travel cpap??
I've had the Phillips Dreamstation Go for about 2 years now. Lightweight, easy to carry and there is no power brick. I use the standard 22mm hose with it. It has an extra USB port so I don't need to have a tranny for my phone, just the USB cable.

Re: Hello - Travel CPAP
For travel I splurged and bought myself a Dreamstation Go with the portable case. The unit is really small and the power brick is built into the unit so you just need a C8 cord to plug into it. I appreciate its USB port so I don't need to bring a phone charger- just a small power cable at bedside fo...

Re: Humidifier
When I got my first CPAP in 2001 it came with a humidifier. It was such a mess to set up and use so I stopped using it after about a month. Haven't used a humidifier since.

Re: a question for those consistently under 5 AHI
The biggest benefit for me came from losing 70 pounds. I did it in stages over a 10 year period. Now my AHI is consistently below 1. FWIW I have always been a back sleeper. I got initially diagnosed in 2001 and have used a CPAP continuously since then. Every 10 pounds of weight loss got me to a weig...

Re: Exercise and AHI...
Over the past year I've been getting more aggressive at weightlifting, bike riding and cardio (I do 5 days of something per week). Since Christmas alone I've dropped 14 pounds. My AHI has dropped from about 2.5 ish several years ago to about 0.5-1.0 now. When I had my last sleep-doc visit, she sugge...

Re: travel cpap's
Never used a Transcend. Just got a Dreamstation Go for travel. I've had it for a few months and it is AWESOME! Small and compact and works really well. It replaced my old Respironics series M machine which recently started getting wonky. FWIW I use standard tubing and a RESMED Mirage mask with mine....

Re: PR System One getting noisy (5 years old)
I used to have an old Respironics Remstar machine that started getting noisy...it was a machine I used as a travel/backup unit. This is probably a no-no but I decided to open it up to see what had actually happened and I found 2 easy to fix issues- the motor was mounted on a shock mounting plate tha...

Re: Newbie - DME not covered question
Buy your supplies on line. They will be far cheaper. I replace my mask about once a year or so. I use a ResMed nose mask- the wear parts for these (the silicone bits) are all available separately and last a long time. I usually wash mine out every few months. On my Respironics series 60 machine, I j...

Re: Do I have to used distilled water? newbee questions
You don't have to use water at all.
I never use my humidifier...it's too much of a bother. I prefer the dry air when I sleep.
You should try it- you might like it too. Then there is no clean up and no dealing with water.

Re: who decides when you get a new machine????
It's your life....so YOU decide! After 5 years, I wanted a new machine so I called my DME. They told me that they wouldn't dispense a new one without a doctor's order so I made an appointment with my doc and she gave me a new prescription for a new unit. It was all pretty effortless and the insuranc...

Ha ha ha...the secret is out. $360 to fix a bad connection. Gotta love that.
My old Remstar unit was also pretty easy to take apart and fix. These boxes are not exactly nuclear warheads.

Re: How often should I change my mask?
I like keeping a separate mask and a few spare parts when I travel. Sometimes the plastic bits get broken en route. Usually I disassemble the ratcheting top from the rest of the mask...otherwise it is just more landscape for breakage... As a routine I replace my mask every year because I can. Having...

Re: Devilbiss vs Resmed
Resmed and Philips are the industry leaders and both companies make reliable equipment. When your life is on the line, seems to me that you are better off going with one of the industry leaders. Personally, I use the Philips Respironics stuff but if my doctor were to prescribe a Resmed instead I wou...

This is what I often use when I travel overnight. This is a configurable, padded backpack. I can put in my cpap, laptop, and a change of clothes
