Just for grins, check the pillow for any little sharp or inconsistent ridges. Could be a tiny defect in mfg that is causing it. I've had a more minor issue..maybe a bad batch?

I wouldn't worry about your DME. He wouldn't do a trade up if he couldn't afford it, either because of markup being what it is on the stuff YOU have bought, or on what others have. Probably lives in a nice house and drives a newer car.
