System one ASV lifespan?

Post by photonic » Tue May 16, 2017 10:59 pm

I have about 7,000 hours on mine. How long do these machines usually last? When does one usually get a replacement to prevent unexpected failure?

Thanks as always!

Many of us have a replacement, or two waiting in the wings. That allows Murphy to go wreck someone elses day, as we are prepared for him. All machines can fail at any time from DOA to Never, by being prepared you seem to extend the time period.

The more complicated the machine the more things can go wrong with it. Jim
ASV's are complicated, compared to CPAP's And BPAP's.

I've heard 15-20,000hrs, but I wouldn't buy a second hand machine with 7,000 on it.

Thanks! these are sooo expensive that it is hard to afford a backup. I'll start looking around.

Lifespan for any cpap/apap/bilevel machine can vary widely...some machines can last 20 years and some might only make it 2 years....some 2 months .

Watch the forum and/or craigslist because sometimes some stupid hot deals can be found.
I found a PR S1 960 (which is the ASV model) brand new for $600 a while back from someone on the forum.
I saw a S9 Adapt offered for $250...used but hours weren't astronomical...I think around 2500.
ASV models are rarer so that keeps the price up along with the initial cost.

I just recently got an AirCurve 10 ST which while it doesn't do auto...it does have back up rate available for central apnea therapy....for $100 with just a little over 2000 hours on it. It will work in a pinch if needed for central and obstructive apnea...just needs a little extra tweaking of the pressures and other settings.

Assuming 7-8 hours a night, you have about 2.5 years on yours...most likely at least 3 years left.

Some people don't have a choice...If they can pick up a machine with 7000 hours for a couple hundred bucks and get 3 years out of it, it's a great deal.

I have an older model that hit 20,000 hours in March, when it stopped recording hours. It's still going strong, but I do have a backup.
