If your saturation rate is consistanly low your doctor should add oxygen to your CPAP regime. At least that is what the sleep center told me. The CPAP will not deliver additional oxygen, just regular air with normal amounts of oxygen. Your body needs the oxygen to keep your organs (especially the br...

I loved the Activa mask on the conventional CPAP machine. But when my doctor switched me to Bi-Pap I found the Activia to be annoying because of the "baffeling" action that took place on the inhale and exhale. I went back to my ResMed Ultra Mirage. I've tried two Respironic masks and have really not...

I've used CPAP and BI-PAP and have experienced the gas problem not every morning, but quite a few. It is usually when I first wake up. Thank God I am not a ballon because I'd be all over the room before all the air was depleted. For me it lasts about 5 minutes, has no order, but it certainly was a s...

Well God must have sent me to this site tonight because I am at the same point as Liam. I was diagnosed with OSA in September and have been "compliant" every night since I received the equipment five months ago. I even comply when I need a nap. It seems like my depression has come back because I get...

I was told by my provider that normally the siicone "mask" part will need to be replaced about every 3 months. Seems that the oil from one's face will deterioriate this part of the mask. That in most masks this become apparent when you begin to have difficulty keeping the seal.

There is a site on the web, I think it's called cpapman and they carry a prodcut that you can wash, disinfect and daily clean your mask and eequipment. It's got a citrus smell and is safe for your mask, hoses, etc. I tried it and it seems to take away some of the ordor of the plastic. I don't think ...

BCBS CPAP

If you haven't checked with your BCBS administrator at work do so. If you are not satisfied with their answer call BCBS yourself. Under BCBS they require a sleep lab test first before they will allow our doctor to write a prescription for a CPAP machine. You just need to find out the "angles" of you...

Dear Tiredascanbe: Hi from the Middle of the USA. I am into my third week of CPAP. I have tried three masks provided by my insurance provider. The one that seems to work the best for me is the Ultra Mirage. I still was getting the red mark on the bridge of my nose and someone on the board suggested ...

I know how you feel. I have just been diagnosed with CPAP and fought with my mask for the first 10 days. I still am not sure I have the "right" mask. I do feel like have more energy during the day and wake up about 2 hours earlier than I use to. It ain't pretty, but I have heard of people who actual...

I have tried several masks and I liked the ResMed Ultra Mirage the best. They have a little gizmo that I found if I adjusted at above the bridge it helped relieve the pressure on the bridge of my nose. Also, if you loosen up what I will call the top of the headgear where the forehead pads are and ti...

Dear Tiredascanbe-Today was the end of my first week on CPAP. The first few nights the mask and I fought all night. I was just about to give it up and live my nights snoring and fighting for air. I decided to stick with it, based on reading various posts on this site. Today I had more energy then I ...

Well, I am not as young as you but I am in excellent physical shape and have never had a problem with my weight. I am 55 and never heard of sleep apnea, so I don't really know when I actually "got it". My internist never asked me about my sleep habits at my annual physical. I have always snored, but...

Sore Nose Bridge

I have been diagnosed recently and was prescribed at first a full face mask. This didn't work because of my face structure, so they went with a Nasal Mask and a chin strap. I have used the mask for about 3-4 days and have developed irritation on the bridge of my nose. The mask is an ResMed Ultra Mir...

You should really see a physician and be tested. Sleep apnea is not something you want to treat yourself. A night in a professional sleep lab will best determine if you actually have sleep apnea, and if so what type (there are several different kinds). Also, in addition to the mask you will need the...
