Cpap Machine Life Span

Post by pdeli » Fri Aug 24, 2018 9:31 am

Realizing that there is probably a wide range of Cpap machines' longevity, is there an understanding of what that range has been in the past?

Most insurance and Medicare will replace machines at 5 years...that is about 13,000 + hours. I think most machines will go several thousand hours longer.

My insurance provides replacement after 5 years of great compliance. My first machine - a PR System One broke within a year of starting on CPAP (the on-off button fell off). My insurance replaced it with a brand new machine (another PR System One). My husband got a new ResMed Airsense 10 this spring when we had our annual checkups. I have to wait another year before they'll change out my old machine. It's OK...I really like the machine I've got, even though it's a lot noisier than his.
Machines: PR System One Auto CPAP; husband: ResMed Airsense 10 Auto CPAP
Masks: ResMed Swift FX nasal pillows for her; husband: ResMed Swift FX nasal pillows
Pressures: 8 - 12, Flex 2; husband: 9.6 - 13 (ramp 10, EPR 2)
DX OSA: Both 10/2012

Gosh, my first dataless CPAP still runs and that was my machine for about 20 months beginning August 2007; it still runs and is my hose dryer. I bought another ResMed machine, S8 APAP, and it is still runs; it's my travel machine. Then, I bought two S9 APAPs and both are still running. I swap out every so often so they both get a workout.
