Re: Respironics Dreamstation - huge unit-to-unit noise variation

I'd like to give thanks and praise for Dave, a respiratory therapist and (I think) vice president of American Health Care at Home (AHCAH), in Baltimore, my DME provider. Not only has this company allowed me to exchange masks - twice - within two weeks, but I brought my Philips Respironics DreamStati...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

ChicagoGranny, I'm not trying to get into an argument with you. I believe that one should always seek alternative treatments, for any condition, if the current treatment has costs, inconveniences, or side effects. Some of my negative side effects were eliminated last night by the methods described i...

Re: Respironics Dreamstation - huge unit-to-unit noise variation

BTW, he said there should be no detectable whine on the quietest units. Maybe for people that are hard of hearing .. You obviously have very negative feelings about the DreamStation machines. Are these negative feelings based on your own use? And was it based on one unit, or did you in fact try man...

Respironics Dreamstation - huge unit-to-unit noise variation

I just had a 2nd home visit from a DME provider's technician. (My DME provider=AHCAH), to replace the mask with one that works better for me. I mentioned the amount of noise seemed excessive to me - I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep with it. It has both air vent (i.e., Darth Vader) type noise...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

Yes, I know that there are published texts which are incorrect - in fact, almost every textbook in almost any subject has some things wrong, or only presents approximations applicable to a limited set of circumstances. This used to bother me a lot - I felt classes and textbooks should teach the abso...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

Parrots can make snoring sounds? How interesting. And they can create human speech sounds too. I wonder why they need to be so versatile. As far as snoring and vocal cords, I'm obviously not an expert, but: https://www.ent-surgery.com.au/ent-resources/snoring says "Snoring is a sound made by vibrati...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

First, I wasn't endorsing any of those videos, or the people who made them. They were just examples of what I found in a very quick search. A lot of them are trying to market their services, which could bias what they claim. All of these "muscle 'tone' exercises" fail to take into consideration one ...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

I snore quite loudly. The noise comes from my vocal cords That's not where snoring comes from. If you look it up, there is no single place in the airways where snoring is generated. Vocal cord snoring is less common than some other places - e.g., the back of the mouth is very common, as is part of ...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

Additional info: The following 2017 study suggested that unpowered EPAP devices with full face masks can work: https://journal.chestnet.org/article/S0012-3692(17)32643-0/fulltext (I've only read the abstract.) Do any of you know of available off-the shelf devices meeting that description? As another...

Re: CPAP Basics - 14 - CPAP Alternatives

UNPOWERED CPAP ALTERNATIVES NEEDED FOR MOUTH BREATHERS?? I snore quite loudly. The noise comes from my vocal cords, and occurs with the mouth open or closed. I can even do it while awake simply by relaxing the muscles just above the vocal cords. This is both a social issue, and a problem when campin...
