Sleeping with CPAP and a Cat
Re: Sleeping with CPAP and a Cat
So the idea of the cage is still good. You just have to make sure that the cats can't get their claws inside the cage (or caught in tit) and that the cage allows sufficient circulation to operate the CPAP.
The idea of putting something on the hose that would deter cats is also good. It's just that what I suggested to use was not a suitable substance, sorry about that.

Every pet cat, were he able to gain 50 lbs, would disembowel you and play with your innards while watching you slowly die.

If the cat actually cares about the hose, then put a cover on it. A couple long socks with the toe cut off can cover the hose.
I have had my cpap now for 5 years. I have 3 cats who are on and off the bed. I have also shared hotel rooms with my friend's cats. At least 10 different cats over the past 5 years. I believe Jay Jay played with the hose twice, and only because I moved and it landed on TOP of him. I moved it, and he ignored it. Quinn has probably turned off my machine 5 or 6 times. No big deal. I wake up and turn it back on. (nothing compared to when she falls off the desk and knocks the lamp onto my head). And one of my friend's cats did swat my m
Good thing the website autosaved part of my post. Quinn stepped on the power button, and turned off my computer. How ironic.
So, one of my friend's cats did swat my face once in the middle of the night. But mostly, they just avoid the venting air. I have never had ANY damage to any of of my cpap equipment.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Re: Sleeping with CPAP and a Cat
If it's the power switch on the machine, you should enable the auto-on feature. This will turn the machine on again if you have the mask on and are breathing. Some machines (such as the DreamStation) allow you to enable auto-on and auto-off separately. This will still interrupt your sleep, but at least you want have to fumble for the switch in the middle of the night.

Some of us HATE this feature and choose not to use it. I can reach my machine easily, and it has only happened a few times in 5 years. Not gonna use a feature I hate just because of a possible rare occurrence.

some of us LOVE this feature, the ability to simply put the mask on and start breathing, or take it off and not worry about anything else.zoocrewphoto wrote:. wrote:If it's the power switch on the machine, you should enable the auto-on feature. LOL, Cleopatra just turned mine on leaving the room.
She has already changed the TV channel.
She just turned it on again.
It was funny the first time.

Re: Sleeping with CPAP and a Cat
My mother in law's cat chewed on her oxygen tube and wiring for her TV. We tried a lot of stuff - some commercial made for the purpose like sour apple liquid and home brew like hot sauce. None of it worked and I finally went to a auto supply house and bought small diameter wiring loom. It has a slit down one side and fit it over the tubing and wires. That worked well.

Did the cat stop chewing it or did it just protect it?ClayL wrote:My mother in law's cat chewed on her oxygen tube and wiring for her TV. Both. She lost interest in it after a day or so.
