Cpap clening machines recomendations please

Post by ksp » Sun Aug 27, 2023 4:34 pm

So I have done some research here and can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for. Specifically, are there any "automatic" cpap cleaning machines that are legitament for cleaning the masks and such? I have used a SoClean for years and have discovered here that it does not in fact work as advertised. Yes, I used to wash the masks once a week but have not done that for years since using the soclean unit. Yes, I am lazy and don't like washing manually. That said, any recommendations for cleaning the machines and equipment the easy way?
Thanks for any help.

The only machine cleaning needed (and possible) is an outside dusting/wiping - you don't want to get inside and if you did would likely wreck the works. SC has also likely done a number on your lungs with the ozone - bad, bad idea - and they should ban the stuff from ever being sold. Just keep your filters up to date. I can't see how using a baby wipe on a few inches of silicone daily or even e.g. 4 x a week would be that hard to deal with for masks. Most don't bother with the hoses at all as only air ever goes through them.

me neither which is why i don't adhere to any schedule. been on the cpap for more than eight years, and not dead yet. i see you are an "old timer" too. frequent washing just isn't required.

the only two things i clean regularly are my humidity tank (i don't use distilled and that tap water can leave a bit of residue in the tank) and my p10 nasal mask. for the latter, i just wipe it off with a baby wipe each morning.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Good to hear these comments. I was always told to wash everything in soapy water along with the hose. That is why I became lazy. LOL. I do occasionally wash the water chamber with vinegar. So if I use wipes to clean mask that is all I need to do? Any specific wipes?

Baby wipes seem to be preferred (any drugstore should have them).

And if you use distilled water you will only have to rinse with vinegar to get the dust n junk that got by your filter. Really

The junk won't have any minerals to feed on. Really

And for me thats a reason to use distilled. Really
You Can't Fix Stupid Really

there was some discussion long ago that the wipes had to be scent free. not sure it's necessary. i use unscented generic baby wipes from winco, but i think that store is regional, not nationwide across the united states.

Two tools: your left hand, and your right hand (God willing).
Unscented baby wipes are good for making your mask feel nice--when it needs it.
(If you can find an unscented baby, that is.)
Dawn and hot water for the reservoir, to stop fuzzies from flourishing in there.
Dust the upper surfaces before the dust gets too thick.
Nothing else really "needs" washing.

The *ONLY* thing that will actually *clean* a mask is an ultrasonic cleaner, however, don't waste money on one that has 'cpap' in the name, you'll pay 2-3x as much as if you just go to harbor freight and get theirs.

seems like an awful lot of trouble to avoid an occasional wash.

"occasional" being the operative word.

My mask and strap cleaning 'machine'..... (Every 3 to 5 weeks or so if I think of it. Not religious about it)

- Insert mask and strap.
- Add two to three drops Dawn dish liquid.
- Add warm water to 3/4 full.
- Let soak a few minutes.
- Shake vigorously for a minute.
- Drain and add cold water to rinse a couple times.
- Hang out to dry in the sun.

I use the little alcohol wipes that are sold in the diabetic section of most pharmacies. My mask gets wiped each morning as soon as I arise. I wouldn't want to use the larger wipes because of the landfill impact.

Just to make sure you get the whole spectrum of experience . . .

I don't wash anything ever. The Bleep "mask" gets discarded every morning.

I totally save my nut jars--greatest "canisters" ever!
I toss any container that is not airtight.
(Why do they DO that, anyway?)
