Card Reader issues

Post by goose » Sun Jul 08, 2007 10:24 pm

I'm having a strange problem with the card reader for the respronics software. It's a Mako DT3500 and it works great, BUT, I have to uninstall the driver and reinstall each time I plug it in.

The Hardware manager sees it, thinks it's working okfine, but it is not recognized by the software and when I plug the card in, the light stays red.....

It's USB; Win XP Pro; IBM Thinkpad Z60m; Ver. 1.8i Encore Pro (considering MyEncore Pro, but don't think it's relevant); DT3500;
I think that's all the info...

The data isn't looking great but that's another subject......

Thanks for any ideas (it's just annoying, not a show stopper)...
cheers

What you have is not a common problem. Some laptops have poor USB design, this may be a problem as the DT 3500 is picky. Jim

I am having the same problem in Vista. And actually, once I delete the driver and re-install, I have 5 shots. I have 5 USB ports and I can plug it into each one once - it gets re-recognized as new hardware in each one. After 5, I have to uninstall again.

It is very weird.

Actually Vista is pretty good. I've always sprung for the newest gadget and gizmo - just my "thing".

If you like multi-media and editing your videos and things like that, Vista is tremendous.

It is still buggy, but I like it.

I got it to work!! I would think XP would work the same as follows:

Click on run (or windows-key R) and type services.msc.

Scroll down to Smart Card. Right click it. Click properties and where it says start-up type, make it automatic.

Reboot (or click "start" and reboot on normal schedule)

Your reader will now work.

Good luck.

Thanks ya'll......
You've just confirmed what I thought to begin with -- Microcrap.....Oh well, I've been dealing with it since I signed up to beta test Windows 95, so.....
No way I'm even going to go close to Vista....They're going to have to do better than that!!!! XP is 'decent' compared to it's predecessors, but still Windoz...Only BSOD once in about 3 years or so -- not bad. And the "restore point" has saved my hind side on numerous occasions!!

Yeah - -My SQL server is up and running at boot, so that shouldn't be an issue -- thanks for that Rose - appreciate it!!
Wonder if it can be ported to MySQL on Linux.......we can dream!!!!

Like I said in my original post, it's just an annoyance, not a show stopper.....I just assume now that I need to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall before I can get my data.....Need to chat with the doc about that, but again, that's a separate thread.....

Thanks again!!!!!
cheers

lindychris -- that worked!!!!!
Great catch. Don't believe I didn't pass that one myself, but that's why we have info boards like this.

With luck it'll continue to work -- Thanks a million for the suggestion!!!!

am having a differnt type of error problem. I put the card in and download the card and it runs for a few minutes then says smartcard error. I do this about 6 or 7 times before it finally downloads the card. Its driving me crazy and cant figure out what the problem is, unless i just got a bad smart card reader.

LindyChris:

You are a FREAKING GENIUS!!!!!!!

THank you! Thank you!

I would have struggled with this for a while and then given up! This worked IMMEDIATELY! Your steps were very clear and easy to follow. I didn't have a clue WHAT I was doing, only that I was following directions. And it worked. I may frame this printout!

Whoohooo!
