I can't tell you why Respironics machines are noisy, but it may be due to the same designers that chose the too-bright-for-a-bedroom blue LEDs.

I can tell you that the ResMed S8 II machines are very quiet. Mine is about 18" from my head and it never bothers me. And neither do its soft green lights.

Are you sure it's the machine that's making the noise and not the Swift (mask)? They are known to be very noisy though new ones may be different.

Where do you have the machine located? I keep mine on the floor, in a tray with a rubber non-skid mat between the machine and tray. It is very quiet, but mine is a tank model. If you take any 2 of the same machines, one may be quieter than the other. It's the luck of the draw.

I have an M Series with A-Flex and it is completely silent. The only time I hear anything is if something gets in front of the exhaust port on my mask.

I agree with this! Very quiet! If only my window A/C was the same way. That thing is a beast.

I don't have your model, but mine is really quiet now that:

-I have the added "whisper" widget
-I use the humidifier (wish I understood the science of why that made it so much quieter...)
-Place it on a lower shelf on the end table
-Place a rubber mat underneath so it won't vibrate, and also wont slip if I accidentally tug to hard in my sleep

I got an M series auto as a backup ... and it's staying as a backup. I find it to be maddeningly noisy after becoming accustomed to the near-silent ResMed auto II. Full disclosure: I did get mine used (400 hours) off Craigslist, so it may have been quieter when it was brand new. It's also frustrating to not be able to roll over, hit a couple of buttons, and see how I did the night before. I tried it for a couple of nights, just to see, then put it in the closet where it will stay unless it becomes absolutely necessary. Anyway ... I agree with you about the noise. That and other factors are why I'm a ResMed man.
