Thanks all,
I lowered the humidity and put the hose under my blanket as suggested, no problems with popping/fluttering noise last night.

It's interesting that several of you mentioned there is water in the tube, as my machine was also making really loud 'popping' noises that sounded like you were hitting the end of a hollow tube. I disconnected the mask, and the popping continued even for a while after the machine was turned off and it was 'cooling down'- but stopped when I put my finger in the tube (ie. blocked the tube) as the sound was really loud and annoying. I ended up sleeping half the night without the CPAP on, which resulted in a terrible nights sleep ! The only thing I've done differently, is that I'm staying at a friends place and I just threw in the standard slimline tube, when I usually use the heated tube- so it's entirely possible there was water within the tube, although it seems strange that water could make such a loud popping sound- I wonder what the water was impacting on to make this sound ? It's happened to me once before- but I can't remember if I was using the heated tube at the time or not- but it's definately a possibility and thank you for all your suggestions

It sounded like when you would take your palm and hit it on the end of a pipe. very strange. I have noticed that sometimes when I lay down at first and the machine is on the ramp mode, that the mask will suck hard to my face when I breathe. I dont know if this is all related and there is a problem with the mask or valve.
Put on the mask, disconnect the hose from the mask. Plug the pipe where the hose connects with your thumb. When you inhale, the valve should open and let air in. If not, you have a problem with the valve. When you exhale, the valve may or may not close, depending if you get the pressure high enough. You may hear some noises.

I had a similar issue with my machine: if I took a big breath in, the mask would get sucked on to my face, and then when I breathed out, the valve would go THUMP!

The problem was that not enough air was getting through the machine into my mask. In my case, this was because the little dust filter was full and needed to be replaced. I imagine that any other problem that blocks airflow through the machine or hose would have a similar effect.

Cleaning better late than never, not only is your breathing hurt, the machine counts on air flow to cool it down. Jim

  • PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT PEOPLE POSTING ON VERY OLD THREADS! Its 2019 and its 1am and this popping noise is getting on my freakin nerves! I googled the issue and UP YOUR SITE CAME. So just because some guy had a question and had a singular answer, doesnt mean people need to stop answering, even years later, because issues change. Especially as companies come out with inferior versions of a product, or updated versions of something but you still have an old product, needing old answers.. i am proof. I dont use water at all, so all the moisture comments would mean nothing to me. So i needed the ones about taking off the hose and seeing if you can resolve the popping noise. An answer given years later by someine else. Some sites close old posts based on soneone demanding it be such,
And ruin google searches for answers. Also, making a new thread wont work, because those same internet board police will say, "this topic was already discussed" and have your question closed! So just be quiet, let humans help humans, and stop trying to police everyone.iits not like companies offer 24hour help on all the thing we buy...

People who don't use a humidifier still exhale moisture in their exhale breath and condensation can still happen if conditions are just right and still cause popping noises simply from this moisture condensing. It's very common and that is why it is mentioned so often...
That needs to be ruled out first because the fix is so easy.

It gets on MY freakin' nerves that people post on the forum, asking questions and complaining........and don't tell us what the HELL equipment they're using!!!

Some years back, there were a bunch of complaints about the ResMed S9 making "clicking" or "popping" noises.
Do you use an S9?

search.php?keywords=%22clicking+noise%22

And, for what it's worth, I DON'T have a problem with people resurrecting old threads if their problems are related to that subject.

So, instead of ripping on everybody else, fill out your profile!

I wonder why it is so hard for people to LOOK.
Look at the equipment--turn the lights on--look really hard.
Most people can figure stuff out if they just take a good look at it.
It is not really that hard.
Even a frog can do it.
