Re: EPAP
Hi zaffy and welcome to the board!
If you're thinking of "EPAP" as being a machine, like a "CPAP", "BiPAP", "VPAP", etc., it's actually not a machine. EPAP is an acronym for a pressure setting.
EPAP is a required pressure setting used by bilevel and ASV machines.
EPAP = "Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure"
IPAP is the other required pressure setting used by bilevel and ASV machines.
IPAP = "Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure"
Or think of it this way:
EPAP is the lower pressure setting for exhaling when using a bilevel machine.
IPAP is the higher pressure setting for inhaling when using a bilevel machine.

Re: EPAP new nostril device
No EPAP is a device that one places inside ones nostril. It is the latest thing, but I cannot find anymore info other than a statement from a DR that it is new. I was hoping someone on this site has heard about it?
Re: EPAP
Back Feb or March 2009, one of my marketing execs brought me a company who I think had this device/technology. Coincidentally it was the same time I went to sleep center for testing and found out I needed cpap. Talked with the doctors and RT about them, and coincidentally a 'rep' was planning to pay them a visit.
Never heard back from the company and the RT was pretty skeptical about the 'technology. Unfortunately I don't have their website or other collateral materials anymore - will look around and come back if I find it.

Re: EPAP
I never heard of such a thing, but from your description, it sounds like somebody had a whiz bang brain fart!zaffy wrote:Thanks for your reply, but no, that is not what I am referring to. EPAP a new treatment is small valve you can wear in your nostrils that keeps the airway from collapsing by expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP).
I imagine a pair of little valves you stick up your nose. The valves I imagine would allow full inspiratory air flow, while restricting expiratory air flow, thus causing a build-up of pressure in the airway upon expiration.
Another get rich quick scheme? I don't think I'll throw away my APAP!
