How in the world do you wear out the velcro on the straps in 4 months? If you are setting and re-setting every day, perhaps I can see it....you don't need to do that. If you are crafty you can sew on new velcro, which is much cheaper that buying a new headgear every 4 months. I don't touch my straps, keep it set the same all the time, and I don't set them so tight it stretches the fabric. I have a quattro that I have had since I started (2 years ago) the headgear is still in great shape..have never reset the velcro part of the straps.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I also set my straps when I get a new mask and never open and close the velcro again.

If you wash your headgear frequently, the velcro & straps seem to work less well. I replace headgear at 6 months for that reason.

Kenneth,

I have had simular strap issues. It is very frustrating to wake up in the middle of the night with a bad strap! I purchased some new velcro strips, cut them to length, and super glued them on. It works very well. Do not buy velcro that comes with an adhesive already applied, that will not bond nearly as well. My improvised straps have better grip and last longer than the factory straps!

Good luck!

The problem that I'm having is the strap's stretch&harder to keep tight ..The velcro doesn't come undone. They get loose during the night&the loop's will come out of the hook holder's on the mask. Then I wake up with the mask hanging half way off..

When a mask has buckles,(as most do) the velcro lasts longer--not needing nightly peel-and-stick.
Unfortunately, a few masks have NO buckles.
Respironics Full life, for one--and the headgear design is not a pull on/off.
Designed by Larry, Darrell, and Darrell? Fire those idiots!
Edit: I see the Mirage FX also has no buckles.
Just got crossed off my list of masks to try.
For the price, I would kind of expect a clip--not to get clipped.

Simple, I just apply super glue to them. Never had a problem.

I love the nasal mask. That is the only complaint. They should have buckles on them.

I stapled the strap where the Velcro will no longer stay in place. Worked like a charm. I can still adjust the strap on the opposite side if I need to tighten it.

While it does not have clips or buckles, the Mirage FX is designed so that the velcro can be left in place.

The strap loops slide over pins on the mask frame. That's how they got it down to 4 parts:
Frame
Cushion
Headgear
Detachable swivel elbow.

Chunky, I just got the FullLife to replace my Quattro FFM and it is a pull-on/off design. In fact there is an instructional book with it that shows to pull it on and off.

I like the FullLife better than the Quattro. The headgear is a little more comfortable and I like the seal a little bit more. The downside is that it could benefit from a stabilizing strap from the neck strap to the top strap in the back to prevent creep.

After paying out huge $$$ for a new strap set, my wife and I
went to Joanne's fabric and bought half inch elastic bands &
Tiny slip buckles. Sew 1 end to secure the buckles and run the
elastic band thru like a waistbelt, and it will hold the mask secure.
you won't need the band that goes over the top of your head.
the neck band and the band that holds the mask over your nose
will be sufficient. You will need 4 tiny buckles and 2 white elastic
band kits....just in case you cut the length too short.

Been using small suspender buckles and staples to hold the straps in place. The head gear last a year or so. Good to lesrn if alternative solutions. Loose straps are very irritating and seem to occur when least needed. Good luck!

Are you sure you need it that tight? It's normally considered a bad idea to overtighten anyway because the silicone on the mask doesn't get to inflate as it should. If you have leaks, there are other ways to deal with them than tightening so much... google Padacheek.com for liners that help to fill tiny gaps, or readjust the straps altogether... look into a different mask or size, etc. but you shouldn't need to have it so tight at all.
