Chin Straps: Lycra or similar material with velcro tabs?
I'm facing the reality that I may need to use a chinstrap after a year of therapy without one. I rigged up an old lycra headband for temporary use, but it's too squirmy when I lay on my side. I'd like someone to recommend a light weight lycra headband (or at the very least, a thin material one) that has adjustable velcro tabs and no real hard parts on it. Does such an animal exist

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Small ace bandage maybe? I have used the cheap stretchy headbands from the dollar store but I am not sure they would be strong enough for a chin strap. They do come in pks of 3 so maybe all three at the same time might work. They don't have any velcro on them.Sir NoddinOff wrote:I'm facing the reality that I may need to use a chinstrap after a year of therapy without one. SNO, I use the ResMed Sullivan chinstsrap -- very lightweight, thin material, no hard parts, has adjustable velcro tabs, doesn't shift around:

I forgot that one and I have one in my night stand drawer. If anyone wants mine they can have it.kaiasgram wrote:SNO, I use the ResMed Sullivan chinstsrap -- very lightweight, thin material, no hard parts, velcro tabs, doesn't shift around:

Thanks kaiasgram, I think that might work. My only thing is that I'll probably have to sew on a backstrap because I toss and turn a lot. That should stablize it nicely. Re: Chin Straps: Lycra or similar material with velcro tabs?
I mouthbreath ... sometimes.
Since my hair is thin, and I have a bald patch on the back, I've had real trouble with chinstraps.
So I've used a clap cap for the last couple of years. I am looking for alternatives...and am experimenting with a pad under my chin to keep my mouth from opening.
Good luck!
Please let me know what works for you.

Re: Chin Straps: Lycra or similar material with velcro tabs?
You may not need to add a back strap to this chin strap even if you toss and turn a lot. Mine is helped to stay in place by my mask because if anything the chinstrap is more likely to slide forward than backwards. My mask and headgear prevent that forward slippage -- the chinstrap can't slide itself around and off the top and sides of the mask (if this makes sense). I'm thinking that an additional backstrap might just create another place where your moving around could move the chinstrap around.Sir NoddinOff wrote:Thanks kaiasgram, I think that might work. Or -- not to get too personal, but do you have hair? For a while I used a hair clip to secure the chinstrap on each side near the top. I really didn't need to do that and stopped.

Re: Chin Straps: Lycra or similar material with velcro tabs?
Thanks for the input Jay, Stormynights, davet... all good suggestions. I'm pretty new in this territory. My homemade modified lycra chinstrap failed last night and I woke up with it covering my eyes. Thought I'd gone blind in the middle of the night
Jay, does the Halo chinstrap you recommended have a plastic fitting where the bottom strap loops thru or does the bottom strap simply go thru some reinforced fabric? I do sleep on my side a lot more these days, so hard plastic might not fit the bill.
Kaiasgram, Your right... I'd try your chinstrap without modification at first. BTW, yeah, I've still got all my hair but it's very fine and thin which means if I put any straps over it, they tend to slide around. I tried Pugsy's trick of sewing some velcro (the hook part) into the my straps, but they still wanted to slide around. I'm sure there is a chinstrap out there for me. I just have to find it.

Re: Chin Straps: Lycra or similar material with velcro tabs?
The short top straps fold back on themselves to capture a small plastic "D" ring. The bottom straps loop through the "D" rings. The connection is a little higher than mid-ear. As a side sleeper, the connection doesn't bother me. What I like about the strap is that the chin part is comfortable, but more importantly, the top part stays in place due to the "halo" around the crown of the head. However, as with all things cpap, YMMV.Sir NoddinOff wrote:Jay, does the Halo chinstrap you recommended have a plastic fitting where the bottom strap loops thru or does the bottom strap simply go thru some reinforced fabric? Jay, That sounds perfect. I'm going onto CPAP.com and getting one tonight. Thanks for the help.Jay Aitchsee wrote:The short top straps fold back on themselves to capture a small plastic "D" ring. Re: Chin Straps: Lycra or similar material with velcro tabs?
I see a couple different designs of this strap (same name) on the web. Maybe newer or older? Mine looks like this: http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com/BreatheWea ... H3407.aspxSir NoddinOff wrote:Jay, That sounds perfect. I'm going onto CPAP.com and getting one tonight. Thanks for the help.
I don't see it at cpap.com. I don't remember where I got mine.
