Adam, you may want to give the Activa mask a try. This Humvee of a mask can handle rough terrain without much of a leak (providing that you learn how to properly inflate that air shock first). If it can't save your stomach sleeping, nuthin' will.

Thank you, folks, for all the helpful info. Everything sounds good except for the medicare "sticky part". My friend relies heavily on medicare so I don't think bypassing that is feasible. Has anyone tried working with medicare via BillMyInsurance.com?

An Activa + chin trap combo may work for you. The Activa's silicone skirt tend to cling harder onto your face as the pressure increases due to this mask's unique billowing effect.

[quote="Anonymous"]If he is only a Radiologist, Medicare will deny the claim unless he has another specialty as well. From the Medicare guidelines for NIPPV criteria: The "Treating Physician" must be one who is qualified by virtue of experience and training in non-invasive respiratory assistance, to...

Radiologist Prescribes CPAP?

My friend is an ex-cpapper who wants to start treatment again after a hiatus. He wants to skip the sleep test and get the equipments (machine + mask) via a prescription by his nephew who happens to be a radiologist. My friend is knowledgable about his own treatment, but I never heard of radiologists...

Re: The 10 Mask Commandments

(1) Don't leak Most deadly sin. Leaky masks go to hell directly already. (2) Don't tell me how to sleep Let me sleep on my back, sides (right & left), stomach, whichever way... (3) Don't be noisy and wake everyone up with loud whistling. (4) Don't blow air at my bed mate and ruin his/her sleep and ...

My mask only meets 6 of these "commandments". Any mask out there does better?

Very interesting, SnoreDog. It appears to me that the machine has to make the assumption that the only breathing pattern it deals with is the night-time sleep breathing pattern so its software doesn't have to be unnecessarily complicated.

But why?

Why is the data only valid if the patient asleep?

Or should I chalk this one up as yet another one of those unexplained CPAP mysteries?

It seems to make sense that different masks would require different blow rates to take account for each mask's specific vent rates. But I would guess that you won't need to take on this job and adjust the pressure setting manually yourself since the machine automatically up the pressure until the fi...

Re: "Hainted" Resmed Vantage?

I've done a couple of a trial runs with the machine while sitting upright reading/watching TV, and it logged HIs and AIs both times. All scoring algorithms in all flow generators are designed to work ONLY WHILE YOU ARE ASLEEP and are breathing autonomously. Any events captured by any flow generator...

It's the blower, not the mask that determine the pressure applied to your airways. So, assuming the same vent/leak rate, either the Swift or the Activa mask would deliver the same pressure. Of course, you still can talk with any mask on, it's the air escaping from your mouth that's the proof that yo...

That would be the ultimate OSA treatment. Imagine going to sleep with a garden hose inserted down your throat. Bring it on, ain't nuthing can colapse that hose. 100% confirmed positively open airways. Absolutely zero AI, zero HI, even zero snoring. No more lousy blower and leaky masks to battle with...
