Re: Slightly OT--A little Nervous about colonoscopy and my SA
Over fifty, never had a colonoscopy, and never will unless there is evidence to support one. Not studies. Images. Showing problems. Images from inside me. I have virtual colonoscopies via MRI. Costs less, works just as well. IF they see something, THEN the tube gets shoved up my butt. I'm awake the ...

Re: Market for Sleep Labs Will Shrink
Eventually 90%+ of the diagnosis will be done at home with novel new portable equipment. This could be done today if there weren't so many people making obscene amounts of money from the sleep lab/DME scam. Meet with a person, take a history, decide whether or not there is reason to test for sleep ...

Re: UPPP More Successful Than CPAP
One has to use a lot of caution with studies like these. If the objective is to prolong life, then the only meaningful measure is overall mortality. Many studies of surgical procedures, drugs, etc. report misleading results because they only count deaths that can be directly related to the condition...

Newbie or not, you are using the machine data to your advantage. I harp on not chasing numbers because some folks agonize over scores like yours.

Re: False Positives for OA and H
I apologize if the phrasing caused offense. Keyboard communications strip away nuances and frequently doesn't communicate what was intended. My intent was to say that each person can, and should, manage their therapy as they see fit. If getting good machine scores works for you, by all means use tha...

Re: PulseOx 7500 from Turner Medical
You can have a pulse oximeter delivered to your door for $153, versus the PulseOx 7500 for $409 plus shipping. See http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t46244/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42392&p=400980#p398006 for my review. I have no financial interest, just a satisfied customer. The less expensive unit is no...

Re: Anyone have tips for FF mask seal?
I used Lansinoh, and it helped, but it is expensive. So I found lanolin (Lansinoh is just very highly purified lanolin) for $8.50 a pound. http://cgi.ebay.com/1-lb-100-Pure-Premium-Lanolin-USP-Awesome-Product_W0QQitemZ220326253030QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item334c77d1e6 A pound last...

Re: False Positives for OA and H
1) An oximeter does not detect apnea events. It only measures blood-oxygen levels (plus pulse rate with most oximeters). The standard definition of any apneic event includes a minimum 10 second interval between breaths, with either a neurological arousal (a 3-second or greater shift in EEG frequenc...

Re: M-Series Leaks showing up as Apena's?
I suspect that the Resmed machine I use generates false apnea/hypopnea flags when leak rates are changing, even when those leaks are well within the machine's ability to compensate. BB's experience seems to validate that hypothesis. I have been using a pulse oximeter to provide independent means of ...

Re: False Positives for OA and H
I have suspected false positives, both awake and asleep. My suspicions were first aroused by the strong correlation between changes in leak rate and OA/H flags in the respironics reports. I bought an inexpensive oximeter and confirmed that it showed real apnea events. Then I compared the data it rec...

Re: Is prescription necessary to order equipment?
Feel free to sell or not sell your personal property to whomever you wish. Prescriptions and doctor's orders and all the associated nonsense are going the way of buggy whips. There's this new thing, it's called the internet. It treats obstacles to communication and commerce as damage and finds ways ...

Re: Selling fingertip pulse oximeter in good price from CHINA
$153 is the starting price? No, $153 is the price delivered to your door, with software, charger, case, and oximeter. Yes, it's less than 1/4 the price of competing products. No, it's not compatible with CPAP machines, but you can export the data to a CSV file and compare with data from your favori...

You're very welcome, jinroh. I know what you mean about information, sometimes the signal to noise ratio is quite low. This forum is nonetheless a very valuable resource.

I like the BM-606 oximeter; it has a great display and stores up to 24 hours of data. It costs $153 delivered.

Re: Cpapless on Vacation--Oximetry Data is it okay?
remstarcpap, those traces look great. You had only 1 episode of significant desaturation. If I had traces like that, the cpap machine would go in the closet and stay there. I see you are using the BestMed oximeter - prettty nice, isn't it? I'm using mine to document the lies told by the Respironics ...
