Re: UPPP Surgery, Removal of Soft Palate a Good Idea?
I had the surgery 3+ years ago. Run, don't walk away from it. The most painful experience I've ever encountered and it was useless shortly after a very long healing process. Snored like crazy, and still had tons of apnea problems. Have been on CPAP sucessfully for 2 years. Not real keen on all of th...

Re: Changed to FFM.... Disaster :(
Brian A full face mask allows you to breath through your mouth, you don't need to tape. I have a quattro and a hybrid (both ffm) and my ahi is always the same, whichever mask I use. (0.0 to 0.3) You need to get the ffm dialed in a bit better, I'm sure the leaks had a lot to do with your raised ahi....

Re: Changed to FFM.... Disaster :(
It sounds like you are probably still breathing through your mouth, so you would still need the tape/chin strap to use the FFM, and what's the point of FFM? I am switching from FFM to nasal tonight. I hope I can keep my mouth shut! I though the benefit for the FFM -vs- the nasal pillows was that it...

Changed to FFM.... Disaster :(
I've been on CPAP for 2 years this month, and have stuck to it 100%. Using nasal pillows, I had my AHI down to 2 or less consistently, but had to tape, chinstrap, etc... due to being a mouthbreather. I felt that I could finally tolerate a FFM, and switched yesterday, finding that the Quattro FX had ...

Re: Is taping you mouth shut dangerous?
Suggestions like this are why I stay connected to cpaptalk.com! A wealth of information from so many experienced users. Good post Arch. I'll bet that was me. If you do apply tape, and throw up before you manage to get the tape off, it will be bad, no ifs, ands, or buts. Aspiration pneumonia is the b...

Re: MNewbie mouth breather ready to call it quits Part 2
You are absolutely headed in the right direction, just stick with it. What you are short on, is the ability to monitor on a daily basis your numbers. Whether it's a LED readout on your machine in the morning or a card reader to download your data, you'll be flying blind until you can see it yourself...

Re: Newbie mouth breather ready to call it quits
After bunches of trial & error, the Swift FX pillows, a PapCap and tape were the only way to get my leaks to zero and my AHI consistantly below 2. Always keep a 1/2" tab on one end of the tape for easy removal. Been working like a gem for me, as I couldn't do the FFM. Best of luck and stick with it....

Re: chin strap question
The PapCap has worked the best for me. All cotton, comfortable and it breathes, unlike some of the rubber material used.
Zero leaks since I started using it.

Re: Is it safe to tape mouth to prevent mouth leaks?
Frankly, it was more dangerous for me not to tape and gain the XPAP benefit. I awoke one night with my sweetheart getting ready to place a pillow over my face to stop the noise.

Well said RG.... it's been a life saver for me. The very minimal risks (IMHO) have been worth the great health benefits I've received.

Re: Well shut my mouth...
My best solution has been the PapCap. After a year and a half, zero leaks and an AHI of under 2. Haven't ditched the strip of 3M tape yet, but hope to soon.
