Re: Switching from CPAP to APAP advice

Maybe this is related to my early sleep breathing last night? Inspiratory palatal collapse? “Palatal prolapse as a signature of expiratory flow limitation and inspiratory palatal collapse in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea” https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29444914/ First pattern indeed looks...

I've got better things to do than waste my time on this.
Sure, you're right, happy now?
I am looking for answers to these questions, not for a fight.
You are long time contributor to cpap forums and if you know the answers, please share.

Since the ventilators needed aren't NIV, again, no.
Isn't invasive or noninvasive a feature air delivery - tube inside body vs. tube to mask?
With appropriate software, why can't CPAP hardware (casing, electrnoics, pump & sensors) used for IV?

Re: Converting CPAPs into ventilators

True, I can't put firmware on any ResMed machine as the firmware is closed source and unavailable to me. For the S10 series, ResMed can update the relevant ventilator modes using over the existing air (cell) firmware distribution. The update would not have to be free, they can charge for it and send...

sure, they could turn all the machines into lumis tx machines.
I am not personally familiar with the Lumis TX machine.
Visually it looks just like any S9 machine.
What is the technical reason a regular S9 machine can't be updated to function same as the TX machine?

ST, yes, *VAPS, yes, ASV, no. S, no, auto, no.
Aren't ST and *VAPS software modes in the ResMed Airsense 10 series?
Couldn't ResMed make a lot of ventilators available in a short time just by distributing a software update to all Airsense 10 series machines?

About as feasable as converting the average family sedan into an 18 wheeler.
Ie, it's not happening, because the manufacturers won't let you.
I do not understand: Is the issue technical (family sedan->18 wheeler) or legal/economic (manufacturers won't let you) ?

Re: How much does mouth taping help?

If by "helping people" you mean, to reduce apnea so one doesn't need CPAP, then yea, surgery probably won't help. If by "helping people" you mean, to greatly improve one's ability t breathe through the nose and tolerate CPAP, then *a lot* of people here have benefited from it. Me being one of them....

Re: How much does mouth taping help?

Tried soft cervical collar, hard cervical collar, chin strap, hair bands, nothing stopped the leaks.
3M 2" Micropore tape works really great, zero leaks. Other tapes did not hold.

Re: Mystery solved! ever heard of "palatal prolapse" (new article)?

I set a custom flag for Oscar: Flag all >20% flow restrictions for >5 seconds and for >4 seconds. Thought it would give me some interesting data, and lo and behold it did. Sometimes flow limitation precedes a problem but sometimes it's benign. Flow limitation could be lowered using higher EPR or pr...

Re: Mystery solved! ever heard of "palatal prolapse" (new article)?

Check mine out!! :D I'm thinking of raising my EPAP by bringing my EPR down. Perhaps more pressure down the nanopharynx will keep the palate from flopping up? Right now I'm at 15 cmH2O with an EPR of 3. Will try 15 cmH2O with an EPR of 2 tonight and reporting back. Yes, it looks like palatal prolap...

Re: Upright sleep posture produces remission

Try borrowing a CPAP for couple of nights to see using it results in remission of all symptoms similar to sleeping upright.
