Re: How often do you conciously wake up each night?

What I meant by conciously (and maybe it wasn't the right word ) was how many times are you aware that you wake up. I know with apnea and uars, we wake up many times but aren't aware of the little mini arousals. I was wondering if it was the machine that was waking me up, or if that is just me since...

How often do you conciously wake up each night?

I usually wake up about every 1.5 to 2 hours a night (that I'm aware of). I've only been on apap for 10 days, and it's the same. Since staring your cpap treatment, how many times do you usually wake up? Did you notice a big difference after starting treatment? Would love to know...

Re: UARS - Has the CPAP or APAP actually worked?

CatherineF, I would love to know how your "tests" work for you as we are both in the same boat . After you mentionoed what your read about how the bipap might be the way to go for UARS, I got a little worried as I don't think my insurance covers the Bipap and it looks like it is more expensive, just...

UARS - Has the CPAP or APAP actually worked?

I just wanted to know if anyone out there has had success with treating UARS with the CPAP or APAP machine. Please let me know if this treatment has worked for you.

Thank you!

Re: Does anyone have UARS?

I was just diagnosed with UARS a couple weeks ago. I think I've had it most of my life as I've always been tired. My mom said I was like that as a kid, even took me to the doctor when I was about 12 for it, but nothing came of it. My symptoms are a lot the same as yours CatherineF: morning headaches...

Humidifier: Distilled Water...How often do you change?

I'm wondering how often you really have to change the distilled water in your humidifier? Do you really have to change it daily??? That seems a bit excessive...but I'm new to this, so what do I know

Re: Noob question about Swift FX mask

Oh I'm so glad you posted this question! I was wondering the same thing! I was worried I was doing doing something right. It felt weird to have that much air coming out that vent (AT ALL TIMES)...but glad to hear it's normal!

Re: I can't fall asleep!

Well, I tried your suggestions (thanks everyone)...and with the help of a 1/2 of an Ambien, was able to finally fall asleep w/the cpap! I slept about 5 hours (woke up about every 1.5 hours)...but still, it's something! I think one of the biggest things that helped was turning the a-plex from 3 down ...

Re: I can't fall asleep!

Hi Lizistired...I haven't tried the mask while watching tv...but I think that is something I'll be doing. Mine does have the ramp feature on, it starts at 4 and I don't like that, too hard to breathe. It feels better when it gets to 5 and beyond. I think I do need to set my a-flex to 1, it was on 3 ...

Re: I can't fall asleep!

At least I know I'm not alone! Thank you everyone. I'm so happy to have found this forum. I think I will try some Ambien. I tried Tyelonl PM last night and NADA. I just had my lower braces and a palette expander put in my mouth today...and starting cpap the same week, wow, talk about going for the g...

I can't fall asleep!

I've been using the cpap for the last 2 nights...without success. I lay in bed from 10:30 til about 2:30am before finally taking the mask off and sleeping w/o the machine. I'm just having a really hard time adjusting. I'm wondering if I should ask my doctor for some Ambien to help me fall asleep. I ...

Re: Group Health & Apria?

Actually, I found out that Group Health only uses the PR Remstar machine. I got to pick my mask though. They had 4 available. I went for the Swift FX Nasal Pillow because it seems to be the one that people use alot and like.

Re: Group Health & Apria?

It looks like Group Health uses Apria exclusively. I was a little afraid, but I did read the tips you said about what you need to know beforehand. I got the same machine & mask as you did "Janknitz" and it seems to be a pretty good one. Hopefully they won't be a pain to deal with. But time will tell...

Re: Does anyone else have a hard time yawning with the mask on?

Oh man...I used my cpap for the first time last night and it was impossible to yawn! I couldn't believe that something so simple could be so difficult. And then, of course, the more I realized that I wouldn't be able to yawn, the more my body wanted to...RIGHT THAT INSTANT! I ended up just having to...
