Re: Simple Question about the BPM and TI on BiPAP ASV System One
Thank you all for the helpful replies, and support. The minor tweaks I've made had to do with expanding the range of EPAP and the lower end of the PS, and even that was in the range of what I had been prescribed from the sleeping titration. I also did look at my BPM rate, and the setting initially w...

Re: Simple Question about the BPM and TI on BiPAP ASV System One
Thank you very much for your reply.
One more thing: generally speaking the number of breaths per minute (BPM) is set to be 2 less than the patient's average BPM, right?

Simple Question about the BPM and TI on BiPAP ASV System One
Since I have the Philips Auto SV Advanced System One model and all of the sleep lab titration guides are for Resmed I have a few questions. 1. Does the Ti setting for the System One correspond to a maximum inspiration time, a minimum inspiration time, or other? 2. Does the Backup BPM setting corresp...

Seeking Temporary Solution for Bruxism/Jaw clenching
I realize that sporting goods places sale mouth pieces. I was wondering if someone could recommend one, as it may be a while before I can make a trip to the dentist. Also, if anyone has used a mouth guard what is 1) the probability of swallowing it/choking on it, 2) Does it negatively affect AHI for...

Powerlifting Community's Article on OSA
This article may have a few misconceptions, many of which are addressed in the comments (such as OSA only being weight dependent, which we know not to be true). Regardless I figured I would share this: http://articles.elitefts.com/articles/rehabilitation/big-strong-powerful-and-dying%E2%80%A6/. Ther...

Re: OT: Low Carb eating--What is there to eat?!
There have been some good contributions here, so, let's see if I can contribute anything else worthwhile. I'm not sure what regime you are working in (less than 50 grams of carbs, less than 100, or what). If you are aiming for ketosis a stricter diet is needed (prone to vary from person to person, b...

Re: cm H2O is Displacement, Not Pressure
I'm still early in my therapy, and am still prone to moments of absent mindedness. It was a very obvious error on my part, as one can easily draw a relationship between a linear displacement and pressure. See mmHg, for example. I was wanting to bust out the fluid mechanics, determine flux, etc. and ...

Re: cm H2O is Displacement, Not Pressure
Thank you for your input, all. I was probably overreacting about being incorrect/poorly stating my observations. It is all about learning, and at times it is more difficult to discern the tone that a person is using through a computer.

Re: Centrals: When to move to BiPAP?
Did you guys have to go back to the sleep lab when you switched to bipap or ASV? I was recently diagnosed with secondary PAH and my AHI are in the 15-17 range and my last oximetry was >66.7% of the night with an o2 sat below 90% and I was down to 60% at times. 2 months ago only 3% of the night was ...

Re: cm H2O is Displacement, Not Pressure
Perhaps I've over and under evaluated this. It is perhaps as much of a measure of pressure as mmHg, but it drives me crazy that it seems like a deliberately esoteric unit. It could also be that I was previously referring to 1-d displacement, a corresponding 1-d force, and a cross-sectional area, to ...

Re: cm H2O is Displacement, Not Pressure
No qualms with water, or the metric system, just ranting about this point. Yes, displacement is proportional to pressure, but it is also proportional to resisting pressures, that is displacement varies in different tissues. Blah blah blah Mutatis mutandis. . There was an incompetent TA during underg...

cm H2O is Displacement, Not Pressure
As a man of physics I would like to say that cm H2O are rather counter-intuitive units for pressure. In fact, any physics textbook worth its weight in working cpap parts will define pressure as force per unit area. Cm H2O is a displacement of water given a particular pressure (the actual pressure ca...

Re: Clinician Locks on xPAPs
I use data, and make minor tweaks, as I assume many do. My AHI is NOW < 2 (yes, almost exclusively hypopneas, with maybe a central per week), and feel subjectively better. Untreated I only had hypopneas, then after failure to tolerate cpap, and bipap I was prescribed an ASV (no need for extra oxygen...

Re: Looks Like I'm Going to be a New ASV User
Welcome, just as others have mentioned: it is not the best club to join, but since circumstances warrant it, welcome. During the last couple of months my productivity in the workplace, socially, creatively, intellectually, physically, etc. has improved. I realized I wasn't running on all of my cylin...

Re: Centrals: When to move to BiPAP?
I had a very similar experience. Well, here is a short history: my sleep study's PSG gave me the following results: Diagnostic AHI (Non REM): 21.6 AHI (REM): 27 SaO2 nadir: 90% All Hypopneas CPAP AHI (Non REM): 11.84 AHI (REM): 8.47 SaO2 Nadir: 89% Again, hypopneas Bipap AHI (Non REM): 0 AHI (REM): ...
