Re: DreamStation Reading Higher AHI than System One
About the sleep position, he had a bunch of obstructives when he first started treatment, but thanks to SleepyHead, I noticed they were always when he'd rolled onto his back, like in the morning, when he'd rolled over and fallen back asleep. So he put a board in the middle of his bed to keep him on ...

Re: I'm so tired, I'm ready to cry
I hear you. It's very difficult to find your way through times like this when you're not thinking as clearly as you could. Before I got treatment, everything I did felt like driving through a fog, and I wasn't trying to do near as much as you are. My father had similar problems, and he did as sugges...

Re: DreamStation Reading Higher AHI than System One
Hi Pugsy, thanks for taking a look at this. He's not on any medications like that, as for Flex, in SleepyHead, the System One says RemStar Auto with A-Flex PAP Mode: APAP (Variable) Flex Level x1 Flex Mode A-Flex For the DreamStation it says: Auto CPAP PAP Mode: APAP (Variable) Then I checked the Dr...

DreamStation Reading Higher AHI than System One
My father's used a Respironics System One for five years, and it's worked well for him. For the past two years, his average AHI has been 3.7 and 4.5. Then, in December, since he'd been five years on the same machine, his DME switched him to the new Respironics DreamStation, with the same pressure se...

Re: Using AM Aligner to Reset Jaw
Thanks for the replies. Avi123 – I’m not using CPAP yet. I have my father’s machine listed ‘cause when I’ve been here before, I’ve asked questions for him. I'll fix that. palerider – Thanks for the tip about apneaboard. grayghost4 – Thanks, that’s what I’ve seen for what I think is called the TAP al...

Using AM Aligner to Reset Jaw
I’ve been using a Herbst oral appliance for a while now, and it’s going well. The part I’m not sure about is how to reset my jaw. Each morning I simply lean my chin on my palm for about five to ten minutes, and I can feel my jaw slowly shift back. Reading up on oral appliances, though, I found out a...

Re: OT? NYT: Sleep therapy seen as aid for treating depression
Thanks for the article and comments. I saw a sleep doctor for the first time this month, and that gives me hope of feeling better soon. And Todzo, thought you'd appreciate this quote I saved some years ago. The way I deal with my depression now is physical activity. I’m not saying I’m free of all my...

Re: More newbie mom questions
I like the suggestion about telling him the mask is like a super hero's, or an Air Force pilot or astronaut. You could tell him, "Have a good flight," as he lies down to sleep.
All the best to you and your little one.

Re: Headed for Sleep Study, Breathing Question
Good idea, chunky frog, and thanks for the info, Not Fade. That may well be where I'm headed. I do avoid sleeping on my back. And also, I'm not fretting! LOL. Serious - I just have a scientific background, and love playing with charts and all, and so was curious to see what I could find out before g...

Re: Headed for Sleep Study, Breathing Question
I may have just figured out something. I was trying to see if I could imitate the sound for my doctor, and I could. It's a strong pressure in the back of the mouth, and gives that exact same rasp/wheeze/squeak sound. And I could breathe in fine between the out-breaths, just as I do in my sleep. Now,...

Re: Headed for Sleep Study, Breathing Question
Many thanks. I do breathe well during the day, so it would seem there's no problems with the nasal passages or asthma. And I'm well aware of the dangers of looking for medical advice on the web (or even looking up symptoms at the Mayo Clinic, which can send one down a rabbit hole of worry). I was si...

Headed for Sleep Study, Breathing Question
I joined this forum a couple years ago, when my father began CPAP, and now it seems it may be my turn to join your ranks as an official CPAP user in that I’ll be seeing my doctor in a few days for a possible referral for a sleep study. Before I go in, though, I’d like your feedback on what I might h...

Re: apnia and atrial fibrillation
There is a definite link between sleep apnea and afib. As the Mayo Clinic says, "Studies also show that obstructive sleep apnea is associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation." I know this because my father's sleep apnea was diagnosed when he was first being treated for afib. He kept wakin...

Re: SleepyHead Tutorial Under Underconstruction
This is great - when I got here a month ago I searched for various terms and copied sections from many different posts (many by you, btw), and so to have it all under one post is awesome.
My questions would've been those you've already answered above, and thanks for all your work on this.
