Re: Links to Central Apnea
Issac: I have wondered the same thing. then it occurred to me that it may actually be the other way around. Perhaps you're having Centrals and your brain is trying to explain why it's feeling oxygen deprived. Here come the dreams of drowning, getting caught in an avalanche, falling out of an airplan...

Risk factors include:
Age: 50 or older
Obesity
Smoking
Pregnancy
Abdominal injury
Increased pressure in the abdomen from:
Severe coughing
Vomiting
Straining
Sudden physical exertion (eg, weight-lifting)
Sorry for the levity but WOW imagine if you had all these risk factors...

Just FYI - what you are proposing is not only immoral, it is illegal. Folks who cheat the system are part of the reason why the system is so expensive for the rest of us.

Re: What do you do when you are tired at work?
Also, as far as getting to sleep is concerned, I would try melatonin. It's natural and helps with getting to sleep. Some folks have said it didn't work for them but I could tell a difference. I would think solving the sleep problem is more important than solving the sleepyness problem (which will go...

Re: Recent Dx (Primary Central Apnea) preparing for 1st DME call
I was also diagnosed with Primary CSA. One other thing to keep in mind is that because the ASV machine is significantly more expensive, your insurance company may require you to try a machine that is less expensive first. Mine did. If I don't respond well to the cheaper machine, then they will switc...

Sunburn and CPAP
Hi everyone! I have a short term issue!
I got pretty sunburned yesterday. Last night, the mask hurt way too much to wear. Is there something quick and easy to do so that I don't go without again tonight? Also for future reference, since it will probably happen again sometime.

Re: 3rd night, best night of sleep so far
I got good news today! Since the DME didn't give me the size my doctor ordered, they are shipping me a new mask. They had actually documented that if I needed a smaller mask it was on them. The first mask was given to me because they didn't have the right on in stock. Imagine that, a DME that stands...

Yay! I'm happy for your success.
If only I had some to go along with it. After a couple weeks on the machine, I am convinced that my mask doesn't fit right. It consistently slips off my chin during the night. Wish me luck with Apria in getting a smaller mask.

Re: Poll: Senitive/Hyperarousable Sleepers
I would have thought I was not a light sleeper. I could fall asleep with any and all kinds of disturbances in the room. My problem was those darn nightmares, the ones where I was drowning, where I was being smothered, where I was being choked...Funny how your brain tries to make sense of something t...

Re: Central Sleep Apnea - More info?
I agree about the morning headaches. That's how I found out about the apnea was that the headaches didn't go away after the caffeine was eliminated. I do have HBP but I'm on meds that seem to do the trick except that the morning headaches are still here. I'm hoping that once I get the CSA under cont...

Re: How to stop the Quattro™ FX ending up in your eyes?
Do you mean that it slides down your face until the forehead thingy is in your eyes (the problem I have with it)? Or do you mean that it slides up your face so that the air is blowing in your eyes? I have the first problem and I think it's because they gave me the wrong size. It's too big so it slid...

Re: Central Sleep Apnea - More info?
The insurance has said they will not pay for BiPAP until I try CPAP first. They allready did a second sleep study and said that I need an 18/14 pressure. The CPAP machine I have does 18 with a -3 release (i.e. same as an 18/15 BiPAP pressure). At least that's what the respiratory therapist told me. ...

Central Sleep Apnea - More info?
I was diagnosed with central sleep apnea. AHI = 21 but only limited obstructive events. Started on CPAP this week.
I am having a hard time finding out info about central sleep apnea. It seems like all the info is about OSA since it is so much more common. Any ideas on where to look?
