Re: My fight with aerophagia (air swallowing).

I try to leave at least 3 hours between meal and bedtime. That is such a good suggestion (at least for me). I experimented with food right before bedtime, and 1,2,3 hours before. The one that works was roughly 3 hours before bed. Right before and 1,2 hours gave me aerophagia. I think I am almost th...

It can take a while. It took me a month of sleeping a lot and feeling fatigued before I feel the improvement. The sleep debt has to be paid off.

Re: What a difference....

Initial sleep study showed 40-45 "events" per hour. I'm now down to 1. Did my oxygen sat test last night. No dips, drops etc.... I slept 7 hours without waking up. Now on to fight the insurance company for full coverage! Congrats! Did your daytime sleepiness go away? I know how you feel. After 1+ m...

Re: My fight with aerophagia (air swallowing).

2 weeks on autoset range 6-7. AHI stable at around 1-2 every night. Minor aerophagia...tolerable. Median pressure around 6.4-6.5. 95% pressure around 6.8-7. However, on 2-3 occasions my sleep was disrupted with bloated stomach pain after close to 7 hours continuously with the mask on. On 2 of them, ...

Update: after 1 month and 1 week of 7+ hours a night with low AHI....I no longer feel sleepy in the afternoon!

Looks like I was sleeping off my debt!

Re: How much does drinking alcohol affect apnea?

From my experience too much alcohol requires frequent raising of pressures on my APAP, possibly result some arousal. My zeo indicates that i don't get into REM sleep at all. I'm lucky if i get into deep sleep for any amount of time. Most of the time is in light sleep. My AHI can be 0. That is a goo...

Re: How much does drinking alcohol affect apnea?

Drank again last night. 2 beers.

AHI 1.37. Although my painful aerophagia stomach bloating came back...probably due to snacking (along with the alcohol) just before bed time.

Re: How much does drinking alcohol affect apnea?

The 1 unit that I am using is 12 fl oz of 5% alcohol. So, 0.6 fl oz of alcohol.

I had 2 units and my AHI is still 1.34. So no effect, thankfully.

I know it does worsen apnea.

But I wanted to see if anyone here knows how much it affects apnea.

In particular, is 1.5 units of alcohol going to add significantly to my AHI tonight?

Will check tonight. Going to go for 1 bottle of alcohol (1.5 units).

How much does drinking alcohol affect apnea?

I have not had a drink since I started CPAP a month ago. Did not want to mess with the data while trying to optimize my treatment.

Now that I have settled on a setting that works. I am dying for an alcopop (1.5 units) near bed time while watching a movie.

Is that going to exacerbate my AHI?

Re: My fight with aerophagia (air swallowing).

Up EPR to 3 (from 2), while keeping the narrow range of 6 to 7. Aerophagia seems to be almost completely gone! Unfortunately, AHI 3.45, with 20 central apneas spread all over. Not sure what is happening. Maybe EPR 3 was too much. Kept the mask on for 8 hrs 26 mins. Woke up at 7.30 (slept at 11 pm) a...
