Re: Insurance changed to Kaiser - new study?
Hi, adrienne - I also have Kaiser, but started from scratch, with no previous dx of OSA. The Kaiser home sleep study is almost too easy. You wear a wristband and a pulse oximeter. That's it. And, I would imagine, that they would expect you to do it without your CPAP, if only to justify the fact that...

Re: new to Cpap
Hi All, I am new to CPAP and am so grateful to have found this group. My Dad died from severe sleep apnea and I think I've had it my whole life. My sleep study AHI was 58 and the last 3 nights were bet 5-6. My 3 nights with the machine (PR system one autopap with heated humidifier series 60) weren'...

Re: Whoppers I have been told from DME, techs, etc
The good news: I have Kaiser. The bad news: Their DME vendor is Apria. The good news: The Kaiser RTs are all very nice and polite. The bad news: Kaiser RTs are NOT ALLOWED to give any medical advice. The worse news: ALL questions, regardless of the subject, are considered "medical advice"... The goo...

Re: Getting rid of odors in a machine. (Smoke, Etc...)
Wow - you guys are amazing! Is there anything you don't know about taking these machines apart? Thank goodness my oxygen concentrator and refiller are rented from Apria (and covered by Kaiser). It took them three times to deliver me a machine that didn't REEK of cigarette smoke!!! Even the drivers t...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
McSleepy - thank you for your careful reading of my post, and your very articulate explanation. Years ago, I went through a pain management program, where we learned slow, deep, abdominal breathing, with the idea of bringing as much oxygenated blood to O2-starved tissues and organs. Then, over the ...

Re: P10 Hose Management?
I started with a hose hanger from Walter Drake at $19, then discovered them at Walgreens.com for $15. It's the slide-under-the-mattress kind, and I have it above my head. But the Amazon one is the cheapest I've seen! But since I have a sleigh bed with a TALL headboard, I am digging the command hook/...

by Sir NoddinOff on Thu Jan 29, 2015 12:43 pm A bit off topic... I hope your avatar picture is not of your cat sitting amid the carcass of your clawed and drained waterbed Cats haven't been getting very good press on CPAPtalk lately. Ask Pugsy about that. BTW, I hate Crapria too. Good luck finding ...

Re: Alternative to Apria?
I have Kaiser, and ALL my supplies - including the machine and humidifier - are covered benefits at no cost to me. Unfortunately, their only vendor is Apria. So now I am in the position of going elsewhere and paying full price out of pocket, or getting free stuff from incompetent idiots at Apria. So...

Re: new cpap user
problemchild - I am a total newbie ... had my machine for months, but have had so many issues, I stopped using it til last night. Can't speak to the mask issue (gotta be persistent until you find one that fits you well, and one you can adjust properly) but one thing I DO have experience in is dizzi...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
by Drowsy Dancer on Wed Jan 28, 2015 9:52 pm Is it possible that the change in "sensitivity setting" might have been changing the A-Flex/C-Flex+/C-Flex settings? Either turning them down from 3 to lower or even turning them off? Or--changing the settings from fairly wide open APAP to either straigh...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
what 560 means is that you've selected the wrong machine for your listing, you need: PR System One REMStar 60 Series Auto CPAP Machine as well as the humidifer with the 60 series in it. palerider – I got thrown by the A-Flex in the title… I think I’ve got it correct now. As for the Humidifier, the ...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
Janknitz – I think you have better RTs in your Sleep Lab than we do. Ours teach group classes in preparing for CPAP testing, and group classes in using your loaner. All test results are sent to the Pulmonologist for proper titration. RTs do mask fittings, but refer ALL technical questions to the Pu...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
by sleep_quest on Tue Jan 27, 2015 10:55 pm In case you want to get a jump on the software analysis, Sleepyhead software in no way interferes with the data on your SD card - you are using a Philips Respironics 560P, correct? You can collect the data on your CPAP machine and then upload that data fr...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
by Janknitz on Tue Jan 27, 2015 7:55 pm Kaiser's home testing and home titration are great for run of the mill OSA, but you do NOT have run of the mill OSA. You need a FULL in lab sleep test. Kaiser can and does do them when warranted--if your local Kaiser does not then they need to refer you out. ...

Re: Newbie With Extenuating Circumstances - Opinions Needed!
by Julie on Tue Jan 27, 2015 7:35 pm Hi - first of all, we're not medical people, just patients who've learned as much as we can about OSA and Cpap, with a little personal. gemeral knowledge thrown in, so we can't comment on previous neuro problems you've had, but can try and sort out your Cpap exp...
