Re: does surgery for deviated septum help?

Amen. In good competent surgical hands at a Tier 1 hospital, there’s almost zero downside here. And if Chicago Granny says it’s OK, that’s all you need to know. She’s been a blessing and a source of knowledge here for a long time. Do your own DD, get the best doc and hospital you can and just do it....

Re: does surgery for deviated septum help?

What Shelby said. My experience exactly. Not a cure for SA, but enables me to tolerate PAP after 2 failed tries. Changed my life for the better, not sure I’d even still be alive if I hadn’t done Stanford protocol and started with nose. And I got a little rhinoplasty I kinda always wanted at a discou...

Re: does surgery for deviated septum help?

Side effects ? Other than a couple of weeks of recovery, a competent ENT and anesthesiologist can fix your nose and improve your life, maybe dramatically.

Re: does surgery for deviated septum help?

I had two failed attempts with CPAP in 2003 and 2008. I could never get over the feeling of suffocation exhaling against the pressure and would either consciously or unconsciously take the mask off in the middle of the night. By 2014 I was so miserable from sleep deprivation I had made up my mind to...

Re: Tips for fighting exhaustion until I can start treatment

Ask your doc for an RX for Nuvigil (armodafinil) or modafinil. This med will keep you from exhausted, and awake if you are nodding off at inappropriate times like I was (driving for one). For me it was life changing, I still use it frequently even though I'm successfully using CPAP. Lot of years of ...

Re: newbie with Amara View mask

Deb, So I've been off the Amara View for a couple of as the leak problems worsened. I switched to a nasal nano and chin strap, and my leaks are basically gone, but this rig is not nearly as comfortable. Thinking of trying Amara View again with some sort of liner...anyone else solved the leaks here ?...

Re: newbie with Amara View mask

I have had this mask for 2 months now and for me it's simply amazing ! A real game-changer in my treatment of my disease. I am on my 3rd try with CPAP after failures in 2003 and 2008 with nasal pillows that irritated my nose and wound up on the floor every morning. After the OSA symptoms really ate ...

Re: Amara View mask leaks

I just started PAP again for the 3rd time in 10 years or so after failures in 2004 and 2008, and this Amara mask I think is the difference this time. I am tolerating the therapy every night and getting decent sleep, with AHI's under 5 for the first time ever. This mask is amazingly comfortable. I'm ...
