Re: Enlarged Nasal Turbinates and Nasal Masks
Hello everyone. I'm new to this group. I have severely enlarged nasal turbinates (that as usual tend to get worse when I lay down at night). The respiratory therapist insisted that I try and use a nasal mask on my CPAP machine, because it would force the air through and I'd be able to breathe fine ...

Re: Inspire Therapy - upper airway stimulation implants
... I personally think UPPP is outdated and ineffective). With that being said, I do agree that it's important to preface the story with the person's surgical history - it would be misleading to leave that detail out. It would be misleading to leave that detail out?? It was left out. This did misle...

I also belong to MyApnea.org. I am copying the response to someone who has it below. Also, the link to the full post. I tested the link...slow. https://myapnea.org/forum/first-steps-for-inspire-therapy-coming-up/1#comment-1995 The person who wrote the glowing review of his Inspire device posts as I...

Re: Sinus drainage and sneezing
My ENT gave me a nasal spray but I hate using more medicine to deal with issues that might have a realistic solution. Thanks! Try using a saline nasal spray rather than a chemical one, it may be part of the solution. Very true for me, continued use of steroid sprays or azelastine (anti-histamine sp...

Re: Medicare & Machine Replacement?
So in summary - What is wrong with buying a cpap from Craigslist? Apparently not one of these posters is a veteran or knows anything about the VA And now I question whether they even know how a DME or getting a cpap repaired works. Maybe none of these negative posters (can't call them people) even ...

Re: Surgery/ Travel-sized CPAP?
I recently got diagnosed with OSA, and I'm considering pharyngoplasty - has anybody had any success with surgery? A bit about me: I'm male, fit, asian, in my late 20's. I travel a lot and it'd be extremely difficult for me to carry a machine around for the rest of my life, and I don't see my physic...

I've been to Dubai and all I needed was a standard US to EU converter.

Re: California Kaiser CPAP coverage?
Speaking for Kaiser through California Choice insurance (Covered CA is likely very similar): Kaiser has two different DME Formulary Lists, one is the Basic and the other is the Extended. Unfortunately all of their Individual and Small Group Plans use the Basic list, even if you have a platinum plan....

Re: Diagnosed UARS--Help with next steps?
@blitzmr2 A lot of your issues (not just the airway/sleep/fatigue issues) can be addressed by jaw surgery. I recommend seeing an orthognathic/maxillofacial surgeon to see if you're a candidate for MMA surgery. Some of the things from your post besides sleep-disordered breathing that can be addressed...

Re: UARS Advice
dudemandude - I recommend having a consultation with an otolaryngologist that specializes in OSA; they can perform a drug-induced sleep endoscopy on you to pinpoint where any obstructions are occurring. It'd also be worth seeing an orthognathic (jaw) surgeon so they can perform imaging tests and pro...

Re: Flow limitation advise
OP it sounds like you have UARS like I did. The old I-have-UARS-so-you-must-have-UARS approach. And thrown in for free, the old I-had-MMA-surgery-so-you-need-MMA-surgery approach. it's human nature to make oneself feel better about what one has done by getting others to do the same thing. I only wa...

Re: Flow limitation advise
Also just to add, I suffered from hypnic jerks on sleep onset just like OP, which I consider to be a smoking gun for UARS. In my case, the UARS was attributed to the nasal region according to my jaw surgeon. The upper jaw portion of my jaw surgery (segmented le fort 1 osteopath) has significantly i...

Re: Maxillofacial surgery (jaw advancement)
I was breathing out of basically a straw in the middle of the night. When sleeping, "breathing out of a straw" is sufficient . Your airway was completely blocked (apnea) at times. I believe that Guilleminault and other proponents of UARS would beg to differ. Flow limitations & an inherently small u...

Re: Airsense 10 & Dreamstation Algorithms
unfortunately, it's a paper about old technology. From sleepyhead charts of the Dreamstation, the fundamentals of the Philips algorithm are unchanged. They're still using the sawtooth hunt and peck design, even if it's been tweaked and refined. It's an old article but relevant enough to help sway y...
