Re: Why bother
Thanks for the replies folks. Today I've climbed down off my "woe is me" platform and researched different masks. I decided my main issue is the weight of the hose pulling on the seal, so looked into various top mounted options. I found a really good price on the Dreamwear nasal mask, and have place...

Re: Why bother
Unfortunately we don't have access to services letting us try out different masks in Australia. If we want to try a mask we have to buy it outright and we waste the money if it doesn't suit. The cost of a mask like the dreamwear is about equivalent to my basic weekly grocery shop, so I have to be pr...

Why bother
Sorry for being so negative but I'm at my wits end with this crap. Was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea nearly 4 years ago, tried APAP, couldnt sleep with it so gave up and put it in the back of the cupboard. Then in April under COVID lockdown I was a good girl and got my machine running and used...

Re: Chris8243 Therapy Thread
Hi Chris, I'm hearing you on the sleep thing, though thankfully not as bad as you. I also really admire the way you've persisted with CPAP despite it all. I tried 3 years ago, found I wasn't sleeping, and decided it was stupid to give myself insomnia using a device that was supposed to give me bette...

Re: Newbie advice -Resmed AirSense10 autoset
I've finished my trial with resmed airsense 10 auto & the hire company has recommended I buy the elite (fixed pressure) model. They also "can't discount from RRP because they are not owned by Resmed", although they put part of the hire fees towards the cost. They were strongly resistant to my triall...

Re: First week: pleased to have found this forum
Welcome DerwentDiva from another Aussie newby If you consider buying a machine from the US, have a look at the humungous post re CPAP on the Whirlpool forum - very long thread but good advice on codes to use for importing medical equipment and recommendations of providers who ship to Australia. Re t...

Re: Newbie advice -Resmed AirSense10 autoset
Thanks Pugsy. I contacted the clinic and they said they'd look at my results to see if I need to trial a FF mask. I'm interested to test options in this early learning phase rather than having to chose between ceasing treatment or testing masks while I have a cold. From what I've read lots of experi...

Re: Newbie advice -Resmed AirSense10 autoset
Thanks Hopeful, you hit the nail on the head with the disconnected hose I'd hung it up to dry and didn't think about having it connected while I played with the settings! Now for a more general question... I am just over halfway through my 5 week trial and need to use this time to work out best equi...

Re: Newbie advice -Resmed AirSense10 autoset
I am curious - I saw my sleep doctor this week (2 weeks into trial) and he looked at my results and said it looks like I need a pressure of 9.2. He then changed my settings from APAP (6-18 range from memory) to CPAP mode with autoramp, EPR, pressure relief and smartstart on, and a start pressure of ...

Re: very low AHI, do I still need the machine???
After starting CPAP trial I was also wondering if all this discomfort was really necessary given my CPAP AHI has only gone over 1 once in 16 nights, and I'm mainly recording CAs. When I saw my sleep doctor this week I asked if it were possible I'd been misdiagnosed because the sleep lab stuffed up s...

Newbie query - blockage error
Hello, it's the middle of the night here and I've just switched my machine off because something is wrong, I can't work out what & I'm keeping my jetlagged hubby awake. About 2.5 hours in I woke up and hubby prodded me cos airpump had stopped. Machine showed a blockage error but I couldn't find any ...

Re: Newbie advice -Resmed AirSense10 autoset
Thanks all. I've downloaded SleepyHead and look forward to learning how to read it (I like that sort of geeky stuff). I managed over 7 hours straight last night, and my hubby returned from overseas and slept with me for the first time since I started treatment - he said I seemed to sleep well and it...

Re: Newbie advice -Resmed AirSense10 autoset
Thanks for all the advice and encouragement - it's really good to feel you're not alone. Unfortunately I don't think I should play around with Sleepyhead/SD card because it's not my machine (on loan from physio specialising in sleep therapy). I feel naughty tweaking the settings in the clinical menu...
