make sure you check the hours and if the user was a smoker, if that's important.

SO after sleeping 7 years on the couch because no one could stand my snoring and then going to the best 2 months I've had for a long time I will be back without a machine. So I must buy one of these myself. I dont really have a budget. What I mean is not that money is no issue is not I have no budget for this at the time but I really do need it to function. My AI/apnea index was 96 so yea I had it bad without a machine.
Now enough of the sad story the deal is I will need a machine. I currently have a brick and since I will have to buy a machine I might as well buy something worth it. I just don't have the $500 to $800 that I have seen most machines cost. I love my S9 in the fact that its not too noisy and gets the job done. I was thinking of getting the RESmart™ Auto CPAP by 3B Products, but after reading on here the noise complains make me think to pass on this one! So what would be a good machine to consider for someone on a budget?
Also when the DME calls me to tell me they're picking up my machine do they also pick up the tubing and mask? I would assume and hope since that's something personal that they leave me the tube and mask since that right there saves me about $100.00.

They will most likely only take the blower. Everything else is usually a purchase, not a rental.
Check the craigslist in your area. I found my Resmed S9 autoset for only $200. I have seen others for $150-400. The cheaper ones usually go faster. I saw several before I was able to get the one I got. You can meet at a Starbucks where this are outlets. Bring your hose and mask. You can put it up to your face to check for cigarette smell if that is an issue for it. We can also help you to know which buttons to check for run hours and settings so that you can make sure it is working okay.

Re: Best Cheap CPAP Machine?
This is actually a great idea to check if the machine has cigarette smell. Also what is a decent amount of hours for a machine to have? For example the link here for the S9 Autoset for $100 has 3747 hours. I assume if the average person sleeps 8 hours a day this machine was in use for 469 days so a little over a year and 3 months. Is this something i should consider? I know all sales are final on craigslist so. Just want to try to make the most informed purchase I can!zoocrewphoto wrote:They will most likely only take the blower. Everything else is usually a purchase, not a rental.

when sniffing for smoke, don't plug it in and turn it on, stick your nose up against the inlet and outlet. having the thing blowing will move so much air through that you may not be able to smell anything.
I recommend meeting at a starbucks, or similar, because there are usually plenty of people around so you're less likely to get mugged, and most of them have ready power outlets/extension cords so you can plug the unit in and test before you hand over $$$.

That is an awesome price for an S9 autoset. If it runs nicely and doesn't smell bad, buy it in a heartbeat. The hours sounds pretty decent too. These machines can last a long time. The are really only two things to consider with run hours. If it is advertised as nearly new, it should be. And the honesty of the seller. If they post almost new, barely used a month, and then you see 3,000 hours, then clearly they are lying to you. Otherwise, I don't worry about the hours. Most insurance companies will not replace a machine until you've had it at least5 years, and many go much longer than that. So, this should be a pretty good deal.

Re: Best Cheap CPAP Machine?
well they are coming to get my S9 tomorrow and it seems they are taking the blower and humidifier. Lady told me I could keep the hose and mask since that is not being rented out by my insurance. So yea time to hit up CL and see what goodies I can find. Also @zoocrewphoto I think I will be doing something like that and meeting in a public place. Ever since they whole craigslist killer thing I dont really like going on there but yea public place should not be a problem.

I buy and sell things on craigslist all the time. If people seem creepy in email, I look elsewhere. If it needs to be plugged in, I usually meet at a Starbucks. I Otherwise, just about any fast food place or busy parking lot will do. The most expensive item I sold was over $1000, so I met at my work place in the breakroom. I knew I was safe with people around me. Nobody knew I had an expensive camera lens in my locker or that I was leaving with a lot of cash. The buyer was protected as well. He knew where I worked, was able to test the lens with his camera in the breakroom. There were a few people around, so we weren't alone, but very witnesses to an expensive camera or lens being carried around. Only one employee actually noticed. Certainly, no customers. And with the video cameras, we both had documentation of the event.
I have tested laptops in Starbucks, grocery store lobby, McDonalds, etc. Most people are good. You just have to be smart about it and trust when you have a bad feeling about something. I turned down an awesome deal on a desktop computer today because the seller would not do a short video of it booting up and going to the RAM and hard drive capacity screens. Since I can't meet in a public place AND try it, I think it is fair to see a video of it booting up.

So true. I had a bad feeling about the computer when there was no response at first when I asked about a video. I looked up the phone number in the ad, and it;s a cell, so no name or address. BUt the general location was different from the meeting place area. Could be okay, but nothing confirmed the information in the ad. For somebody claiming to give followup help with a computer, I want to know that I can truly contact them again. Sometimes I do searches for the name, email, and phone, if I am unsure. I will not leave the house without an address. If it changes, the date must change too. I want them to know that there is a record on my computer at home. Last meeting changes may not be dangerous, but they could be a a sign of a flake or a creepy person. I have several red flags that I pay attention to.
So, far the worst I have had have been no-shows, 3 items misrepresented (not testable i public, and over 10+ years and hundreds of transactions), and some cussing from people when I backed out (opted not to buy, didn't lower price, or opted not to sell to them). Overall, I have been very happy with lots of purchases (most of my camera equipment, multiple computers (my parents and sister have me look for them as well), a backup cpap machine, furniture, tv, lots of printers (I buy cheap printers and ink tanks, and bulk refill to they die), microwave, and lots more.

Re: Best Cheap CPAP Machine?
These all seem to be about buying used machines -- that is one route, but if a manufacturer's warranty is important you may need to get something new or possibly refurbished from a place like Second Wind cpap.
A good new machine is the DeVilbiss auto line. Well made in the USA, costs under $500 and have 5-year warranties and are more affordable than others. Not as much data given as some others, but still very good machines.
Alternatively there are cheaper, Chinese machines -- the 3B Resmart Auto machine with humidifier is less than $400.

Re: Best Cheap CPAP Machine?
Just for a bit of perspective, consider mattress prices, and how often they need to be replaced.
The last one we bought is probably the cheapest--and I have enjoyed the best sleep in YEARS.
---All because of the cpap.
