filter question

Post by springman946 » Tue Dec 20, 2016 6:57 pm

I was just wondering my DME tells me that I should only put one filter into my new aircurve ASV machine but I am thinking I can put 2 filters in there behind the filter door would this hurt my machine if I did just that I am using the hypoallergenic filters that I purchased from cpap.com because I think they are better at filtering out the room air then thoe standered filters that I get when I get my bipap supplies delivered to me

How dirty is the air in your room...after all, you are breathing it all day without a filter.

I put the hypoallergenic filter in first and then the regular dust filter after that. I've done that for more than 7 years.
I replace the hypoallergenic filter once a month and wash and dry the dust filter.
It won't harm the machine in any way.

The ResMed machines like the OP has, do not have the washable foam filter.

I use 2 filters, the resmed standard and the thinner hypoallergenic one. Doesn't seem to affect anything. Did the same with the S9 for years using a cut respironics foam filter and a resmed hypoallergenic filter.

I assume a DME has to quote from the manual.

I'm thinking that it may too much of a drag on the motor?

If you want more filtration use one of these https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... -pack.html If you do there is a place in your machine settings to change to show that you are using this filter.

The specs on this item says....Auto Adjusting CPAP Machines

This filter may have an impact on the ability of any Auto Adjusting CPAP to accurately respond to airflow restrictions during use. If the average treatment pressure is below a pressure of 7cm H2O this should not be used.

I use these filters and they seem to help with allergies. When I began I decided to raise my minimum pressure from 5 to 7 to account for my imagined (as opposed to measured) impact on air flow. So perhaps I sidestepped an issue. More to the point, it is amazing how quickly the filters take on a gray appearance similar to the gray I see on the intake filter. With the filter I am not bothered by congestion until morning metabolic changes trigger things. The filter helps me. I did elect to NOT use humidification and that works for me. Not sure what the impact of sending moist air through this filter would be.
