My son used a nebulizer on a regular basis for years when he was young due to asthma. It would really help him breathe and much better than just an inhaler when he was home.deerslayer wrote:the C O P D has returned with the chronic bronchitis . I use one occasionally when my allergies act up certain times of the year. I don't use an inhaler but the nebulizer is easy to use and the albuterol fluid and saline is fairly inexpensive compared to many inhalers now.
The machine lasts a long time and can be upgrade with new seals, hoses etc.. for little.
It should be easy to setup and use and clean when done. They should have showed you that when you got it. There is not much to the machines themselves.. they basically turn on and off.
Using the saline and how much albuterol is about the only part to learn and of course cleaning the inhaler part every time after you use it.
If you take good care of the machine it will last a long time. We have two machines, one more than 10 years old and the other about 3.

Re: when a Nebulizer is needed ?
I currently have two nebulizers. I have worn one out in the past. I don't use it regularly, but when my asthma flairs up, I need it. I also use it during my annual bronchitis attack. When I was working, I carried one with me when traveling for business. I never knew when the asthma would pop up. Now, when I travel, I take my bi-level machine and my nebulizer. Neblizer treatments normally last me around 4 hours during the day. I then use it just prior to going to bed. Foe me, levibuterol is better than albuterol. The levibuterol does not make me jittery like albuterol does.

A brand new machine is $40 or less. You don't need a RX for the machine now days. Just for the albuterol or what ever solution you need.deerslayer wrote:This was my first ever treatment in Dr office

I would imagine that someone with COPD would be helped with one.
But your doctor would know.

Re: when a Nebulizer is needed ?
I have pulmonary sarcoidosis and chronic sinusitis and use a nebulizer a few times a week. Most of the time I'm just using saline, which helps thin the mucus and relieves the chronic cough. I have a bigger plug in model and a portable battery operated unit, that I purchased on Ebay.
