Cheating a sleep study

Post by Bhubs0513 » Wed Aug 08, 2018 4:04 pm

Ok.....read it all before you jump all over me. I am a school bus driver, and I know I have sleep apnea. For a variety of reasons having to do with my school bus physical, I've been laid off from work. I'm getting all of the problems with passing my physical dealt with, and the final issue is my sleep study. I don't understand why my sleep tests have fallen through the cracks before, but they are sending me for a sleep test next week. Normally I wouldn't have an issue with this test, but I've been out of work for 2 months, and they have told me that if I test positive for sleep apnea they will require one months worth of data (me sleeping wearing the CPAP mask) before I can go back to work. I have spent the summer barely making it on unemployment....as of August 14th, unemployment benefits will be done. So.....are there tricks to passing this sleep apnea test?

So, you want to endanger not only other drivers and passengers on the road... you want to take out a busload of children because of your selfishness... Nice.

I wonder what the jail time and lawsuit totals from that would be. Probably more than missing pay for another month.

Sympathy, you're not going to get it with your cheater attitude.

Please tell us this is actually a bad joke.

A really bad joke.

I'm not an attorney and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I'd be willing to bet...

If you are reluctant to treat your apnea, please consider a different line of work.
It's for the children.
If you are willing to proceed with becoming an acceptable risk, relax.
The current shortage of school bus drivers should assure you a good chance
to get "back in the saddle", as soon as the proper hurdles are cleared.
Thank you for your past and intended future service.
Please do not even considering cheating--it is so very, very WRONG.

A school bus driver who wants help cheating on a sleep study so he or she can drive while impaired? This is so blatantly wrong it seems like it must be a set up by someone who wants to hurt the board or it's sponsor (Maybe a competitor? Or a DME who doesn't like that the board teaches how to adjust the clinical settings on PAP machines?). Whether it's a real request for help to drive kids while impaired or a fake one to hurt the board I cannot wish you success in your endeavor to trick people. But I do wish you good health and success in treating your apnea if you have it.

You aren't the first person to think of cheating a compliance sleep test, which is why compliance test makers have developed security tokens and biometrics to insure that the person who is supposed to take the test is the person actually taking the test.

Ya know, you'd think I'd be all for helping to de-scum the gene pool... but the "crash a busload of kids" seems mighty indiscriminate.

Hopefully, this is just another one of those people who think trolling the forum is "fun".

Only a week or so until school starts--bad timing?
Or a really gnarly vacation.

Sounds about right. The story is plausible, but given the preamble where the author **knows** people will react badly to a school bus driver wanting to cheat on a sleep test then why did they include that detail in the story? That's what makes it seem like a set up to me. Seems like there might be a similar post on another board where they claim to drive a semi hauling nuclear waste, or they are a jumbo jet pilot or something.

Now hold it!!! I sleep wearing my mask, machine running. I am not impared while driving!!! But I have to get back to work. I cannot sit home for another month, this time, without any income at all. I can go back for another test after I'm working. They are going to give me another machine and mask so I will ask them to run the tape on it to calibrate it. Troll.....just someone who is frantic to get back to work.

Nope, as others have pointed out. It's not like borrowing someone else's urine sample. I was asked to "share" by a fellow candidate years back when I was applying for a commercial truck driver license. The last thing I wanted to do was help some guy who wasn't confident about the contents of his own sample! I'd say the same about sleep disorders. There's a VERY good reason you have to clear that bar. I'm glad you're getting on with it. Sorry about the income issue. I know that sucks. Focus on a work-around for that rather than the sleep study.
