Ultra Mirage II Mask Question

Post by sleepless_in_ny » Thu Dec 21, 2006 7:26 pm

Since I am having problems with the search I figured I would post a question.

Does anyone who owns this mask think that it is loud, or did I maybe get a "lemon". I realize that there would be some degree of noise but not like this.

Thanks

I use two Ultra Mirages with (Activa forehead supports) which makes them essentually IIs.

Anyway, make sure that the vent cover is snapped in evenly and that the cushion is properly installed. I usually find that the problem is the latter.

I had the clip problem too. Mine was noisy for a while until I realized the directional vent clip on the outlet swivel had to be snapped down tight. If it is missing or not snapped in, very noisy.

My post on 11/17/06: I picked up my stuff from Apria last week. The "therapist" set up my auto cpap without enabling C-flex, but that was nothing compared to what she did to the mask (Resmed Ultra Mirage II). She apparently removed the plastic cover that snaps over the vent slots and dicarded it, resulting in loud, high volume of air pouring out of the mask. This did not seem to bother her as she fitted the mask and started the machine, and I didn't realize that this was a major problem, since I had not done the titration study (which is why I requested the auto cpap). Five days later, I knew something was wrong and looked at the manual, which had a picture on the cover with a plastic hood over the vent slots. I went back to see this obviously incompetent person, and got the plastic cover....Where did she get it? From a box on the floor from the mask she had just delivered to a guy just before I came in to see her! She said that I could have it, and that the slots needed to be uncovered. After I showed her the manual, She "apologized". Meanwhile the poor guy who came in before me has no idea that his mask is not working properly. Do you think she called him or all the other people she has probably done this to? I doubt it. I have a call in to the manager. The lesson I keep learning is that you better know what's going on when it comes to medical treatment, because there are many incompetent people in the health care industry who also don't care who they hurt.

By the way, this mask has worked great since then--I can loosen the straps a few minutes after the initial seal, and my average leak is 30.7. Stay with this one....yeah I know its the Bad Guys who make it. On their web site they describe the UMII as "simply the best". I have tried a number of masks, and so far they are right....

I know about the clip on thing. I think that maybe the one I have is loose as it comes off pretty easily.

Another ultra mirage II mask is on its way and I will hope for the best as it seems to fit well and would be comfortable.I will return this one regardless.

When I called Resmed, they told me that I could remove the clip thing and it shouldn't be too loud. They also said that it shouldn't be as loud as I am decribing. I think that maybe they have never hooked it up to a machine.

Thanks to all for the answers
