FF Mask Recommendations?
FF Mask Recommendations?
Hi,
Have been thinking about renewing my face mask as the headgear is pretty well worn out these days, the cushion is still original at maybe 8 years of age, (Pugsy might remember). Currently using the Resmed Mirage Quattro. I certainly can't complain about it and have always been happy with its performance, and as a side sleeper could not have asked for more.
Anyway given the fact that technology in FF masks may have improved, I'm just wondering what people are using or recommending these days?
Cheers,
John

Re: FF Mask Recommendations?
From personal experience, I can tell you that I had no problem using the Quattro for about 8 years. About 2 years ago I tried the F&P Simplus which i s similar in that it still has the forehead support, but is a little lighter...I enjoyed using it. Recently F&P came out with an upgrade to the Simplus called the Vitera. There are several minor changes to the Simplus. If the forehead support didn't bother you, I think you would do well by trying the Vitera.

John,
The most popular ff mask on Cpap.com:
ResMed AirFit™ F20 Mask with Headgear + 2 Replacement Cushions
I like simplus and quattro too, but for my face, this is the best. Your mileage may vary.

Yes. The F20 is a solid mask, though it makes the bridge of my nose sore a wee bit. I'm now trying the F30i mask, and so far so good. But I need more time with it to see if I like it better than the F20 mask.

Well, I'm still looking, but seriously thinking about the new Resmed Airfit F30i FF, but my only concern is how does it handle a side sleeper as in does the air tube not get flattened when laying on it, and sizing as I have read that can be a bit tricky when ordering online as not only the air tube but also the cushion to consider. My Mirage Quattro is a Medium size.

My all time favorite is the Resmed Airtouch F20. If you use a face mask liner with it you can make it last a long long time. Been nearly 2 years and I am still using the first Airtouch memory cushion I purchased. The memory foam seal looks and feels new. Very comfy with an excellent seal.

I'm not even sure what a mask liner is, I have never heard of it before? My cushion is 8 or so years old but is now needing replacement as it's quite grotty now.

John

The mask is designed so that if one side of the air tube is completely shut off, the other side will deliver the appropriate flow and pressure. ResMed dealers promote the mask for any position and highlight it as a good mask for side sleepers.
One caveat, you can never know whether a mask works for you until you work with it over several nights. It's a gamble unless you have return privileges.

Re: FF Mask Recommendations?
I'm a F20 fan. But, hopefully everybody likes their mask, so it's a personal thang. A mask liner is a strip of fleece or cotton that fits around the sealing part of the mask cushion. You can make a homemade version outta of an old t-shirt. Karen at padacheek.com makes the liner that specifically fits your mask. I would suggest you go the homemade route first. If it works for you, then buy the one that is specifically designed for your mask. I could not get the liners to work for me. They are comfortable, but my leak rates go thru the roof. I do use the strap covers that Karen sells, and they are great. They eliminate the strap marks and provide comfort throughout the night. That reminds me.... I need to order more!

Re: FF Mask Recommendations?
It's not a new mask, but the F&P Simplus performs well and it doesn't cause discomfort for me like other FF masks do. It's also rather quiet for being an older mask. It can withstand higher pressures as well. It used to be cheaper than other masks as well but now I always have to try a bit to find a deal.

Re: FF Mask Recommendations?
A mask liner is a piece cloth that goes between the mask and your skin. If you are interested in trying to make one, you can find a pattern at this site: http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf
I used this pattern to make mask liners out of an old, well-used tee shirt. I have also made them out of knit paint rags I got at a home center.

Re: FF Mask Recommendations?
Hi everyone, and thanks for the continuing suggestions.
I have purchased the Resmed F30I and have used it for the last 4 or 5 nights. Has taken a bit of getting used to, as I was so aware of my old mask and the noises it would make if it was leaking This new one has air coming from different directions, so I have to work out if this is air being expelled by me or leaking air. As I'm a side sleeper I find I have to make minor mask adjustments when I role from one side to the other. I'll give it a week or so and then download my card to see what info it can show me.
I also purchased a new heater hose as I killed my old one a few years ago when I fully immersed it in water to clean it (well that's what I thought). Having plugged in the new hose I still cannot feel any warmth to the hose what so ever, and am now thinking perhaps the problem is in the humidifier head tube connection, I wonder how to check that? Over the last few years, I have developed a chronic cough which lasts for about 15 mins every day once and immediately after I remove my mask. I seem to have this daily build-up of fluid (mucus) in or on my lungs which takes all the coughing and hoiking to clear it.
Cheers,
John

John, you will want to run this by your doctor--now, while it is only a nuisance.

Yes, I have an appointment with my sleep specialist in a couple of weeks. Being an ex-smoker from years ago it could have something to do with it but in reality I doubt it.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 10:25 pm
