My current problem revolves around masks. I tried to go with a Nasal Pillow, and I was given the Phillips Dreamwear. It was so difficult for me to exhale that I could not use it. I am talking about disconnected from the machine I couldn't exhale without tremendous force. I loved the design so much that I decided to try the full face version, but I wanted to try the Resmed. My equipment provider didn't sell that model, so I tried the Phillips Dreamwear full face. I had the exact same issues exhaling with it. I thought I might be able to get used to it, and wasn't able to return it, so I am currently using a very old (like 8 year old) Mirage Quattro. I love the way I can breathe in it, but the visibility and comfort leave a lot to be desired.
this may not actually be a mask issue. it may be the settings on your machine.
do you happen to know the minimum and maximum pressure settings?

Yes, the minimum pressure is 8, and the max is 20. The ramp pressure is 5. However, the masks I tried were difficult to exhale with when they weren’t connected to the machine, and the Quattro feels great with the machine on. I noticed no difference with the Phillips masks when they were connected to the machine and when they weren’t. In both instances I couldn’t exhale without a lot of force, so I really don’t think it is the machine.

I really want to try the ResMed AirFit F30i Full Face, but I am concerned I will be in the same boat. Does anyone have experience with it? I can breathe like normal in the Mirage Quattro, and I am looking for a similar feel as far as breathing is concerned. I am going to just buy this mask straight up online.
I'm also starting back on CPAP after a failed first attempt and bought the Dreamweaver - I had to ditch after the first night as I couldn't get a seal. I used the ResMed AirFit F30i mask last time around and really liked it, though I found it difficult it a bit difficult to exhale at the beginning. I've since gone to a full face mask in the F20 and seem to exhale more easily whilst wearing it. I suspect all my problems are psychological - the perception of not having enough room to exhale into a smaller mask - so I'm going to settle into the F20 for a few months before trying the F30i again.

Well, I must say this forum is an amazing resource. I did a little light reading, and some of the tips I read have finally gotten me through a full night's sleep in the new mask. One suggestion was to wear the mask during a different activity to get used to it. I wore the mask for an hour while I watched some TV, way before bed, but I think it just took me out of that headspace, and I wasn't thinking about it. Another thread I read basically said to suck it up and try it for a few nights without giving up so easy, which also helped. Also, I believe I had it a little too tight. I still think I may try the Large size cushion and see if that makes a difference. Bottom line, you all are doing great work, this forum really helps people, and I appreciate all of the feedback and tips.
