Switched Machines - should I expect adjustment period?

Post by EK3377 » Fri Aug 06, 2021 4:23 pm

Like many others here, I had a Dreamstation and recently switched to a new machine, after purchasing one on my own. All I could find was a Dreamstation 2. Not my first choice given recent events, but better than continuing to use the recalled machine. What I am wondering is if I should anticipate an adjustment period when switching machines. I have been using CPAP (the Dreamstation) for just over two years, and generally have an AHI under or around 1. I used the new machine with my same mask I had been using (Dreamware nasal mask), last night for the first time. Had an AHI of 2.4. Not terrible, but higher than usual for me. Since I’ve never switched machines before I wondered if others can tell me if an adjustment period is typical when you switch. And if so, how long I should expect? Thanks ahead for any insight anyone is able that provide.

Probably not.
If you changed brands, you would experience a different algorithm.
With Resmed, a better one--worth learning how to "dance with a new partner".

I switched from a PRS1 to my ResMed Autoset and expected it to be hard. It wasn't at all. First, the ResMed has a much nicer algorithm. It is quieter, and "smoother"--I don't know how else to describe it. I slept like a baby from the first night on.

Mask changes are hard, but machines don't appear to be difficult.

I've switched from a phillips system one bipap to the Aircurve 10 vauto and I'm struggling. I've used it for a few weeks and tried to set it to like my old machine and suddenly I'm having gigantic leaks which don't wake me up and my ahi has increased. The ahi is in an acceptable range but I feel horrible and am tired enough I'm having a hard time focusing. I had no significant leaks in the past. It is so frustrating.

I switched from a F&P Icon+ to a Resmed S10 Autoset. I set up the Resmed as close to the F&P as I could. At first, I thought the Resmed was not as good as the F&P (which was not very good). But I got some help from this forum to adjust the Resmed settings. Now I like the Resmed much better.

I like a lot about the Aircurve and will be posting data in the future to figure out what is going wrong. How does anyone manage cpap use without a group like this?
