Inspire Remedee' UPPP Surgery, New Mask

Post by Targa4S » Fri Nov 04, 2022 8:36 pm

Newbie here.

Just want to jump in and share a new mask I found out about & share my experience.

Found out I had mixed sleep apnea 3 years ago. I was 55. 6'4". 220 lbs. Score was 130+! Got the ResMed machine with full face mask. I'm a mouth breather so the nasal mask will not work. I have a small jawline, so the mask fits horribly. Been getting up every night 5-6 times for the past 3 years for years. I had another sleep study in September. the tech mentioned a new mask that came out in the spring. F&P Evora Full Faced Mask. It fits under the nose. It works AMAZING!! It is a life changer. ZERO leaks!! My wife can now sleep with me and not be bothered by the noise.

I received the Remedee' Implant for Central Sleep Apnea last fall. It is the first version & works good for the most part. It 100% deletes my Central Sleep Apnea. It took about 2 months to calibrate. It is a bit fickle, hopefully the next ones will be more user friendly.

My Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is at 62. I had the endoscopy in the spring to make sure I was an Inspire Canidate. Unfortunately, I had the rare pathology of "Total collapse of certain levels of my airway". I had to have the Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), surgery in June. That was ugly, however I was expecting it. All healed up & had another endoscopy last Tuesday & all is good. Now I'm scheduled on November 15th for the Inspire implant.

If I had the Inspire implant in the spring as I hoped, I would have been the 2nd person in the world to have both implants. As of now, there are 6-7 people with both implants. However, I will be the only person in the world to have both sleep apnea implants & a Spinal Cord Stimulator.

Hopefully once my sleep apnea is under control the rest of my health issues fall into place including night terrors, heat flashes, anxiety attacks, etc...

I have been fortunate to have two AMAZING Doctors in the Phoenix area to help. Dr Ruchir Patel, The Insomnia and Sleep Institute of Arizona, Dr., Jordan Wiener, Valley ENT. Both these guys are the LEADING research Dr's in the Southwest when it comes to sleep apnea.

Good luck to all!!

Wow!!

I thought I had intriguing information to share.

Sleep Apnea has destroyed my health & life. I am fortunate to be close to 100% recovery within 3-4 years.

Best of luck to everyone.

So, you were expecting a great response?? This is a CPAP forum, and in general, people don't get excited about surgeries and implants.

What's your AHI for the last 7 days or so?

Yeah, how would he even know? Move into a sleep study suite at the hospital for a few months? I am very comfortable(not happy) with my chronic condition - I just purchased a UPS battery...I would never volunteer to be a guinea pig, but I understand some cannot EVER get used to any mask. So good for you...

Correct me if I'm wrong. Doesn't the qualifications for Inspire implant require that one's average pressure be 15 or over. Mine is 9 - 10.

The Inspire procedure has been promoted for quite a few years,
as there is no shortage of people who seek alternatives to cpap.
I am grateful that cpap has never been a barrier for me.
Too many surgeries have unanticipated side effects--which are not revealed.
Inability to have an MRI has been reported to be a consequence of Inspire.
My MRI helped spare me from becoming severely disabled.

Conditional MRIs for some but not all parts of the body can be performed with the device model that is being implanted now.

If you have an Inspire® implant Model 3028, you are eligible for MRI scans provided specific conditions are followed.

It is important to note: All Inspire therapy patients are eligible to have CT scans, X-rays and ultrasound images taken anywhere in the body.
