Airsense 10 problem?

Post by crookneez » Sun Mar 24, 2024 8:10 pm

Hi all and thanks in advance.

I haven't been on here for a good while (which is positive I guess), but I think I might have an issue with my Airsense 10. I have been away for a month using my Air Mini without issue but last night on our first nigh back at home I went back to the Airsense. The problem was, I couldn't seem to get enough pressure when first putting the mask on (nasal pillow). I kept having to take breaths through my mouth to satisfy my need for air. I went into settings and turned ramping off and reset minimum pressure to 8.8 (my maxpressure is 12). I did get to sleep eventually, but after getting up for the 'loo' stop during the night I kept having the same issue of (seemingly) lack of pressure. I kept having to inhale deeply to feel comfortable..

Now I do have a bad cold at present but that's never been a problem in the past and it wasn't a problem for the month I was on holidays using the Air Mini. The Airsense is probably 10 years old now and I'm wondering if it's best days are behind it. The filter etc is clean and new so that's not the issue. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Maybe you could build yourself a DIY manometer and verify pressures when you start up the machine????
You can buy them but they are also easy to build. Somewhere on the forum a DIY manometer is explained but I don't have that link handy.

Hi Pugsy and thanks again. What would this forum do without you?
I uploaded OSKAR and put last night's data in. I don't know what to look for, can you see a problem?

She is our mother puppy!

We didn't get a link to an Oscar picture... disk room is scarce here, host the images off-site and post links. If your machine cannot maintain the pressures specified it should give an error message. I'm assuming this is a settings difference between the two machines, please examine both carefully. Most folks turn Ramp off after acclimation, I like full beans (therapy base pressure) when I hit Start, fits the mask better there anyway.

Your Airsense 10 will give a 'motor life exceeded' message at 22,000 hours... that's 7 straight years of 8hrs/night. You can see the machine hours in the About menu selection of Options. You are probably not there yet, the nag message is annoying, you would have noticed it. In addition or prior to error messages motor problems come with noise, easily noticeable whining.

These motors can be replaced, the one available on Amazon works fine, 130$, good idea to disassemble and clean the machine anyway. Several YouTube videos are available for help with this.

Here's my manometer post:

You might want to check that you don't have ramp on with a low pressure, which can leave people feeling air-starved.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Thank you all for your valuable input. It was better last night for some reason but I'll put into practice your suggestions.

Thanks so much for the advice about buying a new motor! I got the “motor life exceeded” message and my doctor wants me to get a new sleep study. I don’t think I need one, and it’s a hassle to get one.

I ordered the motor, and will check out YouTube.

FWIW - I notice that you typed 'Oskar', which is a European spelling of what we all call "Oscar", and I hope it doesn't confuse issues for you.
