Resmed Filter

I read the suggestions on changing the filter. It would seem to me that the intake side of the filter should be finer weave than the side where the air goes into the machine. Perhaps a moderator can clear this question up for us ?? I believe that the air should go thru the finest woven side first and then pass into the machine ? I have been on my machine 1.6 years and sleep fine.

The information I got is that if it is an authentic blue resmed filter the blue side faces out. If it is an aftermarket yellow filter the yellow side faces in. I dont know what the difference is, but that is how I have been doing it.

I am really confused with the reference to which side of the filter faces which way ! Maybe we can focus on the fact that I place the filter white side inside the plastic container and expose the blue side to the inards of the machine. I can
therefore only see the blue side when I place it into the holder.

I was told by my RT to make sure the blue side is what you see facing you when it is inserted into the machine. The white area should be the innermost part. Of course, the first time I washed it, I forgot and put it the wrong way. I didn't notice any difference during the usage of the machine. I think it makes perfect sense either way. If the coarser side is first, it takes all the big particles out of the air first, which sounds good. But if it's the finer forst, the coarser part removes the bigger stuff right before you breathe it. This also sounds logical. I guess we do need a mod or someone who knows for sure to come in and be the tie-breaker! I'm interested toknow the outcome, either way.

Check your user manual. My manual says the blue side goes next to the cover.

This brings up another question. My filters are not washable, only disposable. I thought all Resmed filters were disposable. The filters on the S8's are washable?

I don't think you're supposed to wash the ResMed filters, just replace them. (I washed my original once, then realized I shouldn't have, and replaced it.)

That's weird. I've only washed mine once so far and it didn't sem to hurt it. On my cleaning schedule it specifically says to wash the filter with a drop or two of pure soap and then let it dry. I was given these instrustions verbally from my RT as well. I'm wondering now if I should wash it at all. JimW, what happened to your filter when you washed it? Now I'm really confused!

The resmed filters are supposed to just be thrown away and replaced. I was told not to wash them at all.

However I was told that if you get the aftermarket yellow and white filters they go on the opposite way that the genuine blue and white resmed filters do.

Air filters of all kind work such that the dirtier air from the room goes in the corser weave side and the finer (almost smooth) side goes toward the machine.
