Has anyone tried the Tempurpedic Swedish foam mattress? I hear it's easier to sleep in one position for longer periods of time d/t the lack of pressure points.
They are definitely NOT cheap....about $2000 and up for just the mattress. But it's worth every penny if it means my mask won't shift off my face with nocturnal flippage.
Just curious...is different better?
Maybe it's the mattress....

We have been using one for a few years. I love it, my husband did not like the "molding" aspect of it so I put a towel under the sheet on his side of the bed. Your body heat will cause the foam to compress and mold itself to you. After a while the mattress is softer where you have been laying - for the first 3/4s of an inch or so. A barrier, like the heavy bath towel, will stop this process.
I do tend to roll around less than I used to, to the point that my hip started to hurt which woke me enough to roll over to the other side. I miss it when we travel.

I would love the mattress but can't afford it at this time. I DO have two of the king size pillows. They were kind of pricey but they are wonderful!! Overall they were cost effective as I was replacing pillows every 4 to 6 months it seemed as I hate a pillow that gets wallowed out and misshapen. I have used these for 2 and 1/2 years and they are still going strong. Also the pillow tends to conform to my full face mask and so it is not uncomfortable or doesn't leak.
The pillows I purchased were not the cheap ones WalMart sells but came from an discount outlet store that specializes in over-runs and seconds.

Mattress topper
I have the 2" TempurPedic mattress topper and it has helped my shoulder mobility and lessened the stiffness in my lower back. Hasn't afffected my mask as my mask doesn't touch it. Since I use the Aura/Headrest I have no trouble with side sleeping, but even with other masks, a memory foam pillow seemed to support my face enough that the mask did not sink into the pillow.

schnertling, I got one about three years ago. The deluxe full size.
I absolutely loved it the first year. But sometime into the second year, I began waking up many mornings with lower back pain. After I got up and moved around for awhile, the pain went away. I thought it was just "old age" finally catching up to me. I liked the TempurPedic sooooo much, I just couldn't, wouldn't believe it could be doing it to me. It always felt so good to lie down on.
By early this year, the back and hips pain in the mornings was getting worse...and it was taking longer and longer being up and about for it to subside. Granted I'm a wimp about pain...
Finally, this summer it had become excrutiating in the mornings. I decided to try sleeping on an old but firm, regular mattress in another bedroom. Immediate good results...no aches at all that next morning. Used that bed for a week of no pain, but was still determined that it just couldn't be the TempurPedic mattress that I loved (and had so much money in!) that had been killing my lower back.
Talk about denial! LOL!!
Tried the TempurPedic again and WHAM...the lower back and hip pain hit as hard as ever that next morning.
So, I turned the thing over. Don't ask me how...that's one heavy, heavy mattress! The underside, which has a label that says "This Side Down" has a taut piece of material covering it, or something kind of firm built into it. Not as cushy. Doesn't let you sink into the foam and doesn't contour itself around you. Wrong-side-up makes for a firm enough mattress that I woke up that next morning with my back feeling fine. Been using the TempurPedic that way for months now.
"This side down"... UP suits me great!
It's an expensive mattress that I can't use as it was designed to be used. But at least I can sleep on it in perfect comfort now and didn't have to go buy another mattress.
Maybe a tight mattress cover or even just a towel like Susan mentioned would have solved the problem, but now that I have it turned over and it's so comfortable for me like this, I'm going to leave it this way.

I have the Tempur Pedic Celebrity pillow top bed and I LOVE it. I had back surgery about 10 years ago, was always waking up with a very stiff back, my husband use to have to help me out of the bed.......since we bought the Tempur Pedic, no more stiffness AND I don't roll into the hole in the middle of the bed that my husband creates. I sleep 100% of the time on my left side, I don't roll around and I sleep great. I'll never be without one.
Happy Sleeping,
Sharon
