Post by busman317 » Thu May 19, 2005 7:41 am

Anyone know if I can get the Encore Smart Card Reader and software cheaper than $199.00?

I don't know the answer to your question.... but I have a question of my own regarding the Card Reader..... is it absolutely necessary to have the card read? I asked my doctor about it and all he said was....."How is your daytime fatigue? No more daytime fatigue.... then it's working.... no problem." Ok, so my doc is an idiot and doesn't really know anything about Apnea is my guess! I think all he gets is some % of every apnea patient he gets or something! He didn't even know what I was talking about when I asked him about reading my card..... he was like, what card do you have? IDIOT!!

So, since I can't get a good answer from my doc..... can anyone out there explain this to me and how often should I get my card read? Who should I have read it? Etc.....

Thanks, in advance, for all your help!

G00fy,

If I recall correctly, the machine you use is not an auto-pap. If not, the data that you would get from your smart card only will tell you how many hours a day you have used the machine. In this case it would probably not be of any value to download the data on the card.

I was told the new Respironics REMstar Pro-2 will give you all the data their Auto model does. The key is it has to be the Pro-2. Mine is on order--will know for sure next week.

Cheaper than $199? Found it for $179. Here is the link. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1087

Waders,

You are right, it's not an auto-pap, however.... it does have a memory card and it also has a digital reader on the top that tells me I have put in alittle over 600 hours thus far.... so, why would it have a memory card if it is only going to record the number of hours I used it for? I thought it was to tell me whether or not I stop breathing while I sleep.....

I am utterly confused.... again!!

So that you can mail the smart card to your DME and they can tell whether or not you are telling the truth when you say "yes, I use it every night"

...saves them the trip

We bought a smart card reader from Buy.com. It was only 10 bucks. When it got here we found out it was a smart "media" card reader. It was no the same. Don't make the same mistake. We ended up buying the package from CPAP.com.

Well it sounds like CPAP.com is the way to go. I ordered it through them and should be here soon.

Now, if I could just hook that up to my treadmill, refrigerator, and scales and put them all in sync I would have it made!!

I think Derek is working on that already.
