Like NeedsDecaf, I'm using the blue 3M Delicate Release masking tape. Be sure to purchase the 2" wide version.
I tried the medical tape, but I found it to be uncomfortable.
The blue tape is very comfortable....and I can't improve on it.
Because I use nasal pillows, the tape is necessary....and I don't mind it. I use a piece about 10" long....with both ends folded over to form release "handles".
When removing, pull parallel to your face and there's no discomfort. Don't
pull directly away from your face.

Great Idea!
I tried the blue painters tape for the 1st time last night after reading this thread and the stuff is absolutely perfect. It should be remarketed as sealing-tape for mouth beathers using pillow or prong masks!
Thanks people for your comments. Thanks Rested Gal for the links.
Well I tried the tape last night. The tape didn't even make it till I fell asleep. A bit of claustrophobia resulted. I started to time my breathing which led me to start to hyperventilate which led me to ripe it off! I starting to think what if the CPAP malfunction in some way or what if I got sick and my mouth was taped shut! You could suffocate. WOW! After that I didn't sleep much at all. I'm going to try the Poli-dent tonight and just do the middle of my lips and leave the corners open so I can brake myself in slowly. Funny thing is I can use a FF mask without freaking out. I guess that's because I can still move my mouth. I may have to go that route in the end. I was looking at the Hybird mask but don't know if it's any good with a mustache? But for now I haven't given up yet!
On a side note. I'm running on Auto PAP now and I'm thinking of switching to straight CPAP. I was wondering if I ran my CPAP to prescription wihich is 8 cm's instead of the 6 to 10 range that it is set to now, if my mouth breathing would be less. The AUTO PAP is averaging around 7.4 so I not sure if I will see any improvement?

Well I tried the taping again last night. Success! I made it my usual 4 hrs. without removing it. I just tried to clear my mind. The all star game helped also. My mouth was way better as far as dryness was concerned. My leak rate was a bit lower but I think my mask started to leak when I rolled over so I think it should come down even more. Looking forward to tonight. Thanks people for your help on this one.

I hadn't heard that about the 3M delicate release tape. I have to remove the tape many times a night when I get up with my newborn and it is starting to get to be the pits. I will try the painter's tape and see if it is an improvement.
About taping in general, I recently had to stay at the hospital for 2 nights following the delivery of my son. I did take and use my cpap but I had amazing reaction times at ripping off the tape before the nurses could see it and comment. I just didn't want to explain so as soon as my door opened I was awake and ripping off the tape before they even set foot into the room. I still say these big companies should address this issue with some kind of comfortable mouthpiece so we don't have to go to such lengths to get good therapy.
