went from gel full face to mirage quattro

Post by sunrunnerdave » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:50 am

i thought the gel full face was the cats meow . it is comfortable and at lower pressures i think it would be the better mask . but it always breaks, the little nibs that keep the bridge adjustment just break off . so i ordered the quattro with the firm bridge piece . i wasn't to excited about it . but after receiving it and trying it on it fits great and is very comfortable . my leak lines on my reader software look great/better too . all around the quattro is now my favorite . thought id share
good afternoon

I loved the Quattro at first, but I do fight leakes once in a while. I have tried several other full face mask, and I keep coming back to the quattro. I'm still searching for that "perfect" full face mask

I'm hooked on the Quattro! Of course I've not tried any others, but hey, it was great to find this one the first time out, so I think I'll stick with it. I haven't had any leaks or problems with it, I love this mask!

I have a love/hate relationship with the Quattro.

My leak rates are always low and I even had an AI of 0 one night. It is relatively comfortable but leaves mark lines on my cheeks, which do disappear in the first half hour after removing the mask. All in all it works perfectly for me.

The problem? All in my head...It is so big on my face, makes me feel like an invalid, like I am really seriously ill. And I can sometimes smell my own morning breath.

But I must admit that when I am really tired and don't want to fuss with a chin strap and/or mouth taping (mouth leaks are back---have to tape again!), I use my Quattro.

Superb mask, it was the first one I used and I got all the usual sore nose bridge probs that sent me off looking for a better one. After nasal and a fisher paykel ff house brick I am back to the quattro.

What would be helpful is if Resmed/sleep techs made more noise about how to alleviate the sore nose issue and how much better the treatment can be when you overcome this generic and off putting problem.

Forgot to say, I do get the most irritating and unignorable(is that a word)? itches at the side's of my nose occasionally. Drives me mad sometimes, you just have to scratch the bloody thing and doing so wakes you right up again and then the leaks start coz you got a finger under the seal

Yeah forgot about the itches on the side of my nose. Also get those a lot after I have my Quattro on. Have to remove my mask scratch and re-mask.

I find it downright embarassing when I sleepily reach up to scratch my nose only to discover the mask is in the way! Talk about not noticing the mask!!

I have even tried scratching my entire nose before putting the mask on as I know its going to itch, thinking maybe I can fool my brain into thinking it doesn't need to itch now! I hate having to move my mask to itch. It sometimes wakes my girl as the air blows out.

I went from Respironics Comfort Gel Nose (mouth leaks), to full face comfort gel, made terrible sores on face, to Mirage Liberty doesnt seal worth a darn, to the Mirage Quattro.....the first night it leaked awful, I gave it a good washing, that made it alot better. Now I am trying to set it a little less tightly against my face every night. It is far more comfortable then the others.....

I have woke up the last two nights with it off, and the machine shut off. I even coiled up the hose nicely. My mouth still gets really dry, so I am going to tape about 3/4 of it shut tonight, so I only partially breathe that way.....

That Hans Rudolph looks VERY interesting, anyone tried one?

I also get the nose itches frequently. Someone on another post mentioned a tip that helps. Before masking up, vigorously rub your face like it itches everywhere, especially around the nose. It helps some as before I would get itches immediately after putting on the mask. Now I only get the ones caused by the mask later on. Can't prevent those.

I think its the inner silicon bit that just touches the side of the nose, if you wrinkle your nose up you can feel the bugger at the exact point of the itch. when I get a new seal I shall cut this bit off the old one and see if that fixes the problem.

Funny how it always seems to start just as you are beautifully comfortable, leak free and just nodding off.
