BiPap Pro2 Auto prescription
BiPap Pro2 Auto prescription
My visit to the sleep doc today yielded a "Sure, I'll write you a 'script for the Auto BP. But I've got to figure out how to word it for the Ins.Co."
Does anyone who has gotten a 'script for a Resp.AutoBiPap have any insight as to the best wording of the 'script and how to write the parameters to avoid Ins Co. problems. I have Aetna and they gave me a BiPap but three months later, I bought my own BiPap.
Has anyone gottone an AutoBiPap through billmyinsurance?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I have the same situation. My DME got the Resp rep to give me a free trial on the auto bi-pap! I am going to call my Doctor in a few and see if she will go along with it and right a script for me to try it and see if it will lower my AHI and see if it will give me better daytime quality.
Just turned in my pulse oximetry test today can't wait to get the results...
Sleep on my brothers and sisters!

My prescription just says bipap. Of course, I got mine out of pocket and got a auto.

Bi-Pap for 17 years now. Rx 12/8 and using a Resmed AirCurve 10 SAuto Bipap Auto.
As long as the prescription says bipap is all that matters. The auto is just another form of the bipap so no special prescription is required other than for a bipap. There are different makers of bipaps, and each machine has different features. The Respironics Auto just happens to have the auto titration. DME's try to pawn off the older machines they have rather than a newer one. If your physician specifies the auto bipap then it appears to me the insurance would have to go along with that.
Thanks, "Guest", I appreciate your insights!
So if the prescription should read for an [Respironics] AutoBipap with a [CPAP style] range of 6 to 18 with a PSmax of 4 or 5 with a notation to run it for BiPap at 11-14 [my 'script] . I am presuming that the switch between auto and BiPap is User controllable so that if preset that way it can then be 'prescribed' for both functionallities. Any comments on this from users.
It seems like most have self purchased the AutoBiPap [which I may end up having to do or pay a difference] but I would like to try to get my Insurance to pay for it and want all the thoughts to get it done right the first time.
Thank you in advance for any additional help given.

My DME is telling me that the insurance company is requiring them to have a doctor's note stating that I'm unable to tolerate straight CPAP at my titrated pressure of 20cm! (has anyone ever been able to?)
Too bad my doc has suddenly decided that he can no longer take my word for it (since he knows nothing about OSA) and wants me to consult a "sleep specialist" to get this note. I explained that this meant I would have to find a new doctor since the "sleep doc" running the sleep lab he had referred me to for my sleep study and titration study was an incompetent crook (I've never actually met the sleep doc, just his signature on the bottom of the skimpy reports recommending I come back a 3rd time for an even more expensive bipap titration study), and if I had to find another doctor more familiar with OSA, I might as well just replace him as my GP, and how soon can I get a copy of my medical records?
bitter... me??? nahhhhh
