Respironics power connector

Does anyone know how to get the 12V DC connector that plugs into the back of Respironics CPAP machines? I have a 12V DC UPS I'd like to adapt and would prefer not to use the Respironics cigarette lighter cord.

Assuming that you know how to solder: I just measured the plug on the back of my M series. It looks like a 5.5mm outside diameter, with 2.5mm inner hole diameter. You can get these from online electronic part suppliers like Digikey, Mouser, Newark Electronics.

You could probably find it at a Radio Shack in the mall. Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug Their part number 274-1573

I had my doubts about being able to measure the inside diameter accurately enough. There seem to be an awful lot of really closely spaced sizes there. They used to have a bunch of trial plugs on a hook at one of the local Radio Shacks, but I sort of doubt that's still there. I was hoping someone had actually bought the part and made it work, but if the part is under $4, I may just try it.

I don't know if you always post without reading but you have had to have read this. Perhaps you were just worried about everything else

Start with the cable. Take your machine into a Radio Shack store and tell them what you are trying to do. Let him know the center pin is positive. I think mine was an 'N' Adapta Plug.

Watchout for the naysayers who will tell you it won't work without the ferrite cores. They are everywhere these days.

ps - I think the biggest problem is using a wire that won't carry the start-up current. My setup works fine and I take it when I travel bc of the lighter weight. But I do have the Respironics cable too.

Hello, first post...

I found this thread via Google looking for a tip for DC (looks like I found it!).

I have a Resp. BiPAPAuto M. I am looking for a battery system I can use on a plane. I have the SLA batter Resp sells, but not only is it heavy, I was forced to check it at Dulles a number of years ago (defeating the purpose).

I found this battery: http://www.xpalpower.com/us/products/xp18000/. It has more capacity than the SLA battery, and only weighs one pound. I only need about 4-6 hours since most over water flights are about 10. I wake if the power goes out, so no concern there.

The only problem is... proper tip!

xPal will give you the proper tip free if you can tell them what device it is for, they, of course, don't list BiPAPs (probably don't want to get sued).

Is there another consumer electronics device that uses the same tip as the BiPAPAuto M?

Has anyone tried the xPal?

They don't list any medical devices, probably because they don't want to get sued if it doesn't work.

Yea, I was looking at that thread too, and then I was searching for adaptaplug N to see if some other device pops up with the same connector.

They have a support line, now that I know the ID and OD and that it is Tip positive, I will see if they can send it.

Ok, hate to be a pest, but the plot thickens... Seems that the proper cable comes standard with the battery, BUT it is for the 16v-20v side, not the 9v-12v side. So, the question is, can the BiPAP take 19v (as the bottom of the battery says it will output on that port) or will it blow up?
