What does "rested" feel like?
What does "rested" feel like?
I'm curious. What does "rested" feel like? I don't think I've felt rested in ages, but perhaps I have, in the couple of minutes after I wake up, before feeling tired again, without realizing it. I'm also going to try going to bed a bit earlier, but last time I tried that, I couldn't get to sleep in a reasonable time. And I still need to figure out how to stay asleep. I still wake up half a dozen times throughout the night for what feels like a few seconds.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
For me rested means I wake up normally and feel ready to get out of bed because I no longer feel tired or sleepy.
It means I have enough energy that I feel good throughout the day.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
Good question! It's been so long that I barely remember.
For me, truly "rested" isn't just waking up and feeling like I'll have enough energy to get through the day (although that in itself is a very welcome change and an important milestone on the way).
Truly "rested" will be when I awaken with ambition - the sense that not only do I have sufficient energy to do things, but I am eager to do them.
(About 4 months in, I think I'm probably about 2/3 of the way there (some other health issues need to be dealt with to go the rest of the distance).

'Rested' is when I fairly jump out of bed.

I've been trying to figure this out myself. I don't remember, but I guess I'll find out.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
I understand how you feel....I don't remember a time when I felt like I actually "wanted" to get out of bed and felt I had the energy to face the day... After 3 months on CPAP therapy, I am a bit discouraged... However I am glad that I no longer feel hungover in the mornings, with a bad headache all day and falling asleep as soon as I relaxed....! A lovely forum member is helping me and coaching me with my machine settings, trying to lower my OSA without increasing my CSA...numbers are still around 10-15 and on just one day it was as low as 5...I am really trying and hoping to make therapy work for me! But it can be very discouraging !

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
to me if you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, you're not rested. when you no longer say that, you're probably rested.
the other side of it is that some people have other medical conditions going on, so they may never truly feel rested. i use my cpap and it is helping me, but i feel the same because i have other medical and lung problems going on. at this point i view my cpap as more of a life saving thing than a feel better thing, if that makes sense.

I don't normally ever feel like I WANT to get out of bed; but now, I feel like I won't mind so much.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
I remember before my diagnosis falling asleep if I sat for more than a minute, not able to watch TV, and always more tired when I got up than when I went to bed. Now I wake up, take a shower, drive to work, and sit in front of a computer all day without falling asleep. There are occasional moments where I regress but that is usually taken care of the next time I go to bed. I am overweight so having a lagging feeling, it’s to be expected and can be cured be losing more weight. Look for small victories that you can build on and in time your life will be close to normal.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
The most important thing about "rested" for me is that I see the glass as half full. Once I started cpap, after a month, I started believing in life again, that I could do things, that there was always a door opening to some other opportunity, rather then a slow slide down hill to death.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
I would love to be able to just wake up in the morning and be able to get out of bed no problem and be ready to go the rest of the day. I've been on autobipap for 6 days now, and i don't really know that i feel a change at all. I wake up.. I still feel like i need a nap.. and since i work from home i do take that nap after i get the kids out to school. After the nap. I get up and I get going. I still don't really WANT to get out of bed. I could probably sleep all day. But i know that i would feel like crap if I do.
Should i just be forcing myself to get out of bed in the morning and not take the nap? Is this going to change? My AHI numbers are great on the machine. I'm doing well. But still not feeling awake like I thought i would.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
Just what do you expect after 6 days in a cast for example, to run a marathon? You have a sleep debt to pay off, your mind to get used to sleeping safely and years of low O2 damage to repair.... in 6 days?danjfoley wrote:I would love to be able to just wake up in the morning and be able to get out of bed no problem and be ready to go the rest of the day. Just remember to mask up for your nap.

Re: What does "rested" feel like?
Let's see. Just as most people, I'm not quite there, but have had effective treatment for a few month, so I would say I'm well on my way (70% or so, 85% on good days, and 10% on bad days, if I had to guess). I'm not even all the way there, and I've noted better improvements in exercise (strength and endurance), better/clearer thought processes (especially on good days), better logic skills, better verbal skills, energy does not fall off quickly, there is more motivation/ambition, and life seems much easier to enjoy.
There is much to look forward to.

Most of us had OSA for so long we forgot what it feels like to be normal. It's sort of like having a cow stand on your foot: It feels sooooo good when it moves!tetragon wrote:I'm curious. What does "rested" feel like? [snip]

+1 - However, that feeling of wanting to get out of bed is happening more often.chunkyfrog wrote:I don't normally ever feel like I WANT to get out of bed; but now, I feel like I won't mind so much.
