Hi all--
My DME was supposed to deliver a System One AutoSV Advanced (950) this week but is having trouble obtaining a unit (apparently they usually give people the Remstar Auto SV Advanced but if I am going to pay top dollar, I want the current model which is also smaller and lighter--important for my bad back when I travel) and they said thay have an equavalent Resmed model in stock which I can have tomorrow.
Since I trust the DME as far as I can throw them, what is the Resmed equalivent? is it the Resmed S9 BIPAP Adapt SV w/ Heated Humidifier? I want to make sure they do not try and pull another fast one on me and give me a 2-3 year old technology. I am also assuming the S9 BIPAP Adapt SV is fully data capable and the data can be downloaded off of an SD card.
Any other advantage to the Adapt SV over the 950? As you can tell, I am just starting my research but need to make a decision tomorrow, so any guidence is appreciated.
Thanks,
Fred
Resmed vs PR AutoSV equivalent question
Re: Resmed vs PR AutoSV equivalent question
The two brands are similar but not identical and they go about things a bit differently.
One thing stands out in my mind....the S9 adapt does NOT flag centrals as part of its data that is gathered.
You get apneas and hyponeas flagged...no centrals.
With the PR S1 ASV 950...you will get central (called clear airway) flags as a separate category.
There are other minor differences in how it does its job but the main thing that sticks in my mind is the lack of centrals being flagged with the S9 Adapt.
If there is a chance that this data matters to you or your doctor...wait for the 950.
Also with the PR S1 machine the snores and flow limitations are more easily evaluated on the reports.

It sure does. Its one of the reasons why I am on this therapy in the first place.Pugsy wrote: If there is a chance that this data [central apneas] matters to you or your doctor...wait for the 950.

Re: Resmed vs PR AutoSV equivalent question
BTW....There is a 960 now with the heated hose. I haven't been able to get my hands on the software from Respironics that it seems like the 960s need. SleepyHead won't work and the Encore products I can get my muggy little paws on...won't work.
There is an Encore Pro product that will work but I haven't been able to locate a copy.
So if you get the 950...the heated hose isn't a deal breaker and I would be happy with it if it were me and I wanted to use the software to see my reports.
Now the DMEs have access to the Pro version that the 960 needs and eventually I will be able to find it but I haven't been able to yet.
I can help you with software for the 950.... Send me a private message and I will point you to it. Assuming you want to be able to see what the doctor sees and sometimes SleepyHead will actually play nice with the 950 but EncoreBasic will work for sure.
Since the doctor requested Respironics specifically....he may also be used to Respironics models and how they go about their job and already has the software so he may prefer that brand.
Since ResMed and Respironics go about their job differently he may have a specific reason for prescribing the Respironics brand and I wouldn't be changing brands unless I talked to him anyway. I wouldn't change brands just because the DME says they are the same thing. They aren't the same thing..similar yes but they go about their jobs differently.
If your DME is pushing the older Legacy model..they are way behind the times and likely pushing old stock that has been sitting on the shelves for a long time...the 950 has been out for quite some time and not the newest is the 960 has been out at least since this last spring....that old Legacy model ASV is way old.
It's not like the 950 was just released last month.

The DME was clearly pushing the Restar BiPAp Autosv Advanced and I refused delivery when they brought it out. There were a varierty of reasons but the basic one for me was I did not want to pay top dollar for 2-3 year old technology.
The 950 is my choice. I have encore 2.1 and sleepyhead, both which work with that model and my laptop will read an SD card, but not that large card that goes in the Remstar version. I also have a heated hose from the folks down under that developed it (sleepzone, I think) so getting the 960 isn't necessary and does not sound like a great idea from your comments.
It was when I insisted on the 950 that they mentioned the S9 Adapt as another option and I was unfamilar with the Resmed BiPAP products and needed to know whether I was dealing with something that was the functional equivalent of the 950 or not. Your comments convinced me that I am dealing with something that is a rough equivalent, but there's no reason to settle for that just because its easier for the DME.
Thanks for your input,
Fred

Re: Resmed vs PR AutoSV equivalent question
Fred,
You would want either the 950 or 960. However, Resmed now has an S9 ASV unit that includes the ability to have an EPAPmin and EPAPmax (to automatically adjust the EPAP per your obstructive apneas). It is also an S9 ASV. So, you may need to ask your DME if that model includes an EPAPmin and EPAPmax setting.
Again, the problem with the Resmed unit (either of the S9 ASV models) is that they will not flag central apneas.
So, of the current Respironics units there are two models (model 950 and model 960). You would want the model 960. It includes the ability to support their ClimateLine. It's problem (right now) is that it may be difficult to read the data. You might have to have your doctor request the software for your unit to read the data.
Of the current Resmed units there are also to models (S9 ASV and S9 ASV). I am not aware of any other change than the big one of being able to handle the variable EPAP to address obstructive apneas. Again, if you have the most current, you might need to request the software (via your doctor) to read the data.
Hope that helps.

Only problem with the 960 model...right now I can't find any software to get to a person so they can monitor the software reports.
It's out there but I haven't been able to locate it so I could get my grubby paws on it.
Eventually one of us will find it and be able to help out.
I know one person who got it but wouldn't/couldn't tell me how he got it. Pro 2.12.
Doctor's and DMEs should have it available.
BUT if a DME is still pushing the older Legacy based ASV machines...I bet they haven't made any effort to update their Pro version....
