CPAPs with big water tanks and powerful humidifiers?

Hey everybody,

My remstar auto A-flex runs out of water halfway through the night and dries out my nose. I foolishly had a turbinate reduction done several years ago and it has been a pain ever since. Any tips on CPAPS with bigger tanks / higher quality humidifiers?

I use a stand alone humidifier plus the machine humidifier. connect with a one foot hose. The host has them fairly cheap.
Think it is made by f + p.

I still get some dry mouth at near rain out. But no longer run out of water and get painful dry mouth. In cold dry weather with a cold room it is good. Summer I turn one off and use it as a Passover, The experts may say it impeds the sensing and machine response. But I have not notice any problems with two.

If you will post your equipment (machine, humidifier, type of hose, and mask) as well as your settings (air pressure settings, humidifier settings); then we can give you some advice on what to do.

I tend to run my machine at a high humidity, but I only run my tank dry if I use it about 10+ hours. Most nights, I don't come anywhere near using the whole tank.

Humidifier tanks that run empty in one night is not uncommon and should not occur. Call your DME. Hopefully your machine is under warranty and can be repaired at no cost to you.

If you are using a tank of water in four hours, the most likely causes are:

1. Using a nasal mask and breathing through your mouth (Which causes pressure loss and make the therapy ineffective.)

or

2. Using any mask and having large leaks. (Which can make the therapy ineffective.)

You need to investigate whether you have either problem and correct it before worrying about the humidifier.

Are you using data to monitor your therapy? If not, ask and someone will tell you about it.

I live at a higher elevation in Arizona with out central heating. A 60 degree room with relative humidity of 20% will suck a tank dry in 4 hours with out any leaks. In our monsoon season a tank can last 2 days. Can not blame every thing on leaks or the user

Certain medicines to remove excess body fluids will suck a humidifier dry in one night- every night. Some folks have copd and are on lasix and are constantly going to the bathroom for removing excess water. Lasix (furosemide) is a loop diuretic (water pill) that prevents your body from absorbing too much salt, allowing the salt to instead be passed out.
Nice to know you can tandem humidifier chambers if you have this problem . I would think a house with that low of humidity would cause some other problems . But I envy you when I'm mowing in 90 % humidity at 90 degrees and soaking with sweat in steamy Florida.
Maybe the manufactures should look at this to add a port for another tank to auto fill the chamber.
