Cleaning the System One humidifier outlet port

Post by buckeyered » Sun Nov 10, 2013 12:36 am

I know the user manual says to use a damp bottle brush but I don't see how that could kill any bacteria or mold. I don't see a way to remove the elbow without possibly braking it so I was wondering how I could disinfect the port without removing it?

The lid pops off if you are careful and can be popped back on...don't know that I would recommend doing it though because it might break if a person isn't careful. But it pops off.

Chances of any unwanteds setting up housekeeping in that elbow are pretty slim. I would think a good wipe down with some sort of disinfectant would be sufficient. Like using some wipes with the same disinfectant that can be bought in bulk and used on the other equipment.

I have never worried about it and don't do anything but if it bugs you then just use disinfectant something to wipe it down real good...or get one of those SoClean things that is supposed to kill everything.

The elbow does not appear to be removable.

Just push a baby wipe or alcohol soaked cloth through it and you should be good to go.

Alcohol wipes, (prep pads) can be found at any drugstore.
A large paper clip can be bent to go where your fingers can't.

The whole lid can be replaced. The silicone cone thing can be removed and cleaned or replaced. Cpap.com sells the parts.

I took my lid off, and it wasn't too bad as long as you look and figure out how to open the catches. There are two detents on the latches, and the second one is a little tricky to get both unlatched at once. Remove the water tank, detatch the humidifier from the blower and take a look at it.

Once you get it off, you can get to it a lot easier for cleaning. It looks like sort of a one-way snap in thing. You might be able to figure out how to separate the elbow, but there are about 8 little catches you have to push all at once.

I agree, there doesn't seem to be a lot of need to "sanitize" the elbow.
